The tour takes about 70-75 minutes. A lot of fun and local history involved. If you're in Hallein or nearly it, and it's raining outside and you have no idea what to do, Salzbergwerk is the best idea. Of course it's worth a visit even if it's sunny.

It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes for the entire tour in a chilly cave so if you are weak to cold air, be sure to bring little clothing's to wear under. Other than the walking, the guide will play two short films, one light show and one documentary about the oldest wooden stairs. All were interesting but I... More

My wife and I took this tour 10 years ago and while good, this year we took the same tour with our grandkids. The tour is sooo much better, with addition of technology and videos in the mine itself, creating much more worthwhile knowledge to build understanding of the 7,000+ year life of the mine and this area of Austria.... We absolutely loved this tour. It was very affordable, 25 euro this includes the finnicula ride to the top where there is an extended viewing platform over Hallstatt. The tour begins further up the mountain so be prepared to walk up hill. The walk to where the tour begins is not that hard and they had lots of stop off... More

You will spend there 1:30 hour if you use lift and take tour into oldest salt mine on the Earth. When you use lift after you get off of lift you need go by walk extra 10 - 15 minutes to reach mine. When you decided to go to tour around mine you will get extra clothes which looks like... More

I would guess that about 95% of the tourist take the cable car to the top, and then go on the salt mine tour. My family decided to take the hike. It was a good hike, uphill of course, but gorgeous views. There are benches to rest on during the way. The hike up took about an hour, but we... More

7000 years of history , evident in the biggest salt mine in Europe , still busy and productive with 1000000 m3 salt a year, walking 400 meters into the mountain , sliding down on wooden slides with a speed of 30kmh brings a lot of fun ( it is not dangerous!!!), mine lake with nice light show and the best... My first time in the salt mine and it was really cool to drive with the small train and then having a guided tour through the mine. The history of the mine and how the salt was extracted was really interesting. The slides and the small boatride also made the trip extra memorable. It is recommendable to check it out... More

Wow, who would think that a workplace could be around for 7,000 years! They had the oldest wooden stairs in the world at one time, I sure wish they were still there. The slides down were fun too, it was a great experience for all ages. I would definitely do it again!
