Don't miss it. This is a unique "attraction", which will take you 7000 years back in the salt mine world We loved it.

This is a great place to visit, especially if you're with kids. The train ride to and out of the mines, the 2 slides (27 and 40 meters long), and the walk in the mines are really worth your time.

This is a must see attraction in Hallstatt. We were on vacation with our two adult children and took the tour. What a spectacular view from the top of funicular! The guides did the tour in a couple of languages so it was interesting to hear the history of the area and the salt mines. The slides were very fun... More

This is the place if you want to enjoy the peaceful town with a great view and without a lot of tourist buses coming and going. The nearby salt mine is a unique experience and is a lot of fun for a small group. When we visited there was a mixture of all age groups and both adults and children... More

It is just a fun thing to do like sliding down the slide in the salt mine. The view is awesome coming out of the mine and the little bar and restaurant up there has the best view overlooking Hallstat.

Attractions are closed during winter but it is still a must see place. Riding 3 modes of transportation from Salzburg (bus, train, boat) is all worth it. The people are lovely and accomodating, most can speak English and are willing to help you if they think you're lost. Will definitely come back in summer to experience the hike and salt mines.

You start your adventure with a tram that takes you up the mountain, where there is a breathtaking landscape. From there you walk up the mountain and puts appropriate clothing for visiting the salt mine (about 7 degrees celsius). Visit the mine involves hiking, stops for guided attractions, a giant slide (by 2 times), and a trolley / train set... More

It was interesting getting dressed to go down into the mine and then experiencing the slides to the bottom ( you can reach some good speeds ) The whole experience was enlightening.

This is a fun attraction, albeit a pricey one, to see in Hallstatt. You'll learn a few things about salt mining from some dated presentations, including videos, a laser show, and even an animatronic character! I find that I have a hard time understanding the English from German tour guides in Austria, and it's no different in this salt mine.... More

My husband and I stayed in Hallstatt for a few days while backpacking in Aug. As frugal travellers, which is quite hard to be in this little village, we thought the salt mine was worth our Euros. Some things to expect: Lots of cardio! You have to get to the top of the mountain to get in the mine. Even... More
