Took the funicular in Hallsatt up to the salt mine. Wasn't sure what to expect but people said it was fun and it was. Just the right mix of information and fun. Mine itself is cool so a light jacket is helpful. Miner's coveralls are a fun experience and definitely a photo opportunity. Slides are fun, but thrill of mine... More

Great fun and really interesting. Taking the slides between the different levels in the mine was fun. The sound and light show was amazing over the subterranean lake. If you suffer from claustrophobia you may not like the train ride out of the mine at the end as it seems to be a very low narrow tunnel and you think... More

Had a wonderful day on a side trip from Salzburg to the Salzkammergut lake district. We rode a furnicular tram up to the salt mine, where we dressed in coveralls and hiked into the mountain for a fascinating tour of the old salt mine. Salt, was a valuable commodity throughout the early history of Europe, and has been mined in... More

You will most likely take a train to get here, probably from Vienna, like we did. That trip and particularly the town and surrounding area is simply spectacular. Mountains, a gorgeous lake, the train tracks, picturesque buildings, and greenery are such that you will be snapping photo after photo. Absolutely recommended based on that. The salt mine itself, while clearly... More

Great thing to do if it's raining since most of the visit is inside the mine. Very educational and a lot more fun than we expected!

Fantastic location. We had a really good guide, who spoke very well English. It is cold down there, so take warm clothes. Ages 4 and up.

A fantastic location, stunning lakeside, felt more like a fjord. Needed much longer to explore the town and would be great to stay here next time to enjoy it when more of the day trippers have gone. If you have never visited an Austrian salt mine it is well worth it - informative, fun slides, light show and more (... More

So, don't get me wrong...you should visit this important place of human history. City looks really nice, situated lakeside. Visit to mines - well organized, fun, but for my taste it's little too much kids oriented. And it's little too long. However, don't my short review turn you off this trip. It's really impressive to see what people are able... More

Hallstatt is a fantastic small place what everyone must see once in life! We were there at second time - after 10 years - and we took our family there. We visited the mine as well. It is a good experiance but a bit expensive. Unfortunately (after 10 years) I can see that everything is about money there high cost... More
