I'm really torn writing this review! We took a day trip from Salzburg to Hallstatt and went up the hill to the salt mines and took the tour. The views from the mine were amazing, and made the trip worthwhile! (We loved Hallstatt the town also) However the tour was just ok. The group was a bit too big in... More

In my opinion hallstatt and altaussee salt mine should never have been taken together as an atraction here on tripadvisor. This makes the other atraction which has the correct name actualy a little double. We have been in Hallstatt and really enjoyed the tour. Although we do think it is a little too expensive. We were with four including two... More

It's got a bit of a Disney feel to it with video presentations and mechanical dummies to teach you about the salt mines. And the slides seem a bit gimmicky. But still, it's good family fun. Just getting to it is a must do if your visiting.

We have to take a funicular to the mountain, take an elevator, and walk about 15 mins uphill to the salt mine entrance. The entrance fee is reasonable, the tour guide speaks english and german very well. Before the tour begin, we have to get dressed with the miners outfit. The best thing of the tour are the slides and... More

We were surprised how entertaining this tour was. The guide spoke German and English which was nice. The slides from one level to another were very fun and extremely fast! They clock your speed and I got up to 32.8km an hour.

Near vertical railway up , walk into a mine, slide down two slides sound+light shows and come out on the miners train - wow! Only negative thing - was told at train station that price of ferry was incuded in Hallstatt train ticket - no one seems to have told the two grumpy men who run the boat! - almost... More

heading up the mountain with a modern train/cable car - you arrive on the mountain top and there is a new lift up towards the platform to view the lake. you walk about 15 min. up to the salt mine entrance. entrance fee for a 2 hours visit in the mines and the museum is reasonable and worth the while.... The Hallstatt Salt Mines is accessed via a funicular which runs every 15 minutes from 9.00am. It is best accessed from the P2 car park. From the top station it is a steep uphill climb of ten to fifteen minutes to the cave entrance. We found that our tour time was only allocated once we got to the cave itself.... More

Hallstatt is really beautiful, the experience in the salt mine is unique. The narrow tunnels dug out for the trains is really good. Would recommend the place for a sunny day, good scenic backgrounds, good restaurants nearby, you will definitely enjoy the trip to the Hallstatt salt mines, right from the bus ride from Salzburg and the ferry into Hallstatt... This is a must do day trip from Salzburg. We didnt do the salt mines as I tend to feel a bit claustrophobic in closed places. However just walking around the little town and taking a leisurely boat ride was a beautiful experience.
