This place has the oldest salt mines int he world. Its a bit of a trek after a 3 minute cable car ride, but has some really scenic views on the way. I really enjoyed the time spent inside the mines, the walk through the varying tunnel cross-sections, the explanantion on how mining was being done, the short documentaries, the... More

After taking a Cable car 1500 ft. vertically up the side of the mountain, you walk another 15 minutes along a wooded path to reach the start of the tour. The scenery is quite pretty along the way.Once you arrive at the post, you are given a uniform to wear over your clothes due to the cold temperatures within the... More

Cool tour. The slides and train were a slight surprise to me - didn't do much research. Just went with others. A bit of walking to get up to it even if you take the bahn. The mine floors are a bit slippery at times. The slides are optional - there are stairs. Enjoy. It was worth the time and... More

What a beautiful hidden gem in alpine country. If you ever on your way to salzburg, don't miss this one. It's worth to stay there for at least two days

We had never been to a salt mine before and learned quite a lot. We took a tram up the mountain and enjoyed great views from the platform. The actual entrance is a fairly long walk up hill from the viewing platform, but there are landmarks and background information along the way. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. Before entering... not much to see in the tunnels except 3 presentation videos about the history of the mine and mining equipment. however, the 2 wooden slides inside are excellent fun! Shame you only get to go on each once

I had planned to go to Hallstatt after reading trip advisor reviews and this beat my expectations! We drove into town and wanted to park in P2 but since it was full, we parked in P1. The walk was not long to the bottom of the hill and there is very good signage in the town directing you to the... More
