We took a tour started in Vienna and arrived in Spitz , then get on a Ferry for 1 1/2 hours , along the River Danu, there were many small town and villages, then to Melk where there is a beautiful Abbey. We visited the Abbey then headed to town center which is interesting and beautiful. We had a wonderful... More

As part of our trip to Austria, we went to this place by road from Vienna travelling alongside Danube river. The drive was very good and enjoyable. We passed through many wine yards along the way. We had wine and bread at one of the restaurants while sitting in lovely garden lush green. Later on after spending two hours at... More

All Assessments are relative to what the reviewer has seen. This valley gets very high reviews and deservedly so. It is clean, green, picturesque, and relatively affluent. However, for anyone who has visited Switzerland, Norway, or the Smokey Mountains in the American South, the scenery is just pleasant and visually engaging. The Wachau Valley is not special when compared to... More

We were cruising on the Danube and through the Wachau valley the morning after leaving Vienna. The valley kind of reminds me of the Rhine River valley only greener. We passed many small towns or villages with nice quaint churches. We saw many vineyards as this valley is famous for its wine production. Occasionally we would see a partially fallen... More

We sailed (motored) through the Wachau Valley on an Avalon tour ship. Glorious views of castles, castle ruins, vineyards, quaint little towns and beautiful hills were to be seen from both sides of our ship. We stopped off at Durnstein for several hours and found the little town to be quite qaint but did not suit out shopping needs (clothing).... More

This is one of the best cruise I have ever been. The valley is so serene and calm. Nature at its best. You see vineyards, castles and little towns on the way. Full worth for the money! Go for it...

I travelled with Saga during April. We had 2 enjoyable days in Salzburg prior to a coach journey to Linz to board Filia Rheni 11 I was pleasantly surprised at the size of my cabin (311Upper) & pleased that the shower was bigger than expected. The food on board was generally excellent & plenty of it. The staff were friendly... More

Walkers & cyclists waved from the riverside paths as we cruised the Danube through the valley - we loved the peaceful and green scenery & visited the quaint historic towns of Durnstein and Melk.

It's an hours drive from Vienna airport. The Wachau is an Austrian valley alongside the Danube river. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations of Lower Austria, located midway between the towns of Melk and Krems, also known as the wine country.Lots of tourist attractions such as Dürnstein, where King Richard the Lion-Heart of England was held captive... We cruised through the Wachau valley in early May and it was a beautiful scene from beginning to end. The quaint towns and churches that line the shores make this a very special place.
