We took the tour to Wachau Valley and Boat Tour with City Discoveries. We went with our three small children. It can only be described as beautiful. The children (4, 6 and 12 years old) were not distressed, but very comfortable. The boat ride was comfortable with plenty of beautiful castles on cliffs. The food on board was very good.

Look over the valley from the heights of Durnstein at the Vineyards in the valley. The view of the valley is like a postcard. The township of Durnstein is different from what we have seen as it is much smaller and you can have a good look. Not a lot of tourists when we were there. Then cruised through the... More

We did the DDSG combi package day trip from Vienna by train to Melk, cruise to Krems and then the train back to Vienna, with the Melk Abbey entrance included. The DDSG website is incomprehensible in English, but you can buy the combi ticket from the ticket machines at any train station. You catch the train at Westbanhof but the... More

this region is so different and feel so relax! we had a walk in the town then enjoyed the dinner with good quality house wine and meal. The view along river Donau is beautiful and romantic, especially in the evening before the sunset.

If you can spare the time to get out of Vienna, there are some beautiful towns a short distance away. They can be reached by train if you wnt to go yourselves, or there are several tour companies that that pick up at hotels and run tours 8 hour group tours to the towns including the Melk Abbey and some... I highly recommend the quaint village of Stein to stay. Not only is it picturesque with great traditional pubs, it is also home to the Bailoni company making marillen schnapps (apricot schnapps). You can walk 1800 meters to another beautiful city, Krems and see pure baroque buildings. The altstadt or old city is lovely. There are many things to do... More

We were in Vienna for 3 days and had seen many of the main sights of the city and had heard how beautiful the Wachau valley was, so booked a trip with a local agency. It took about 1 hour 20 mins from Vienna to get to Spitz (you can also get the boat from Krems) where we caught a... More

It is very nice to spend the last day of your vacation at the countryside of Vienna. A trip to the Danube valley with Wachau (8 hours duration) this trip was very well organized by City discovery company (they do free hotel pick up). the bus will drive you out of Vienna for about 1 hour to a small village... Apricot liquer, river views, endless greenery, beautiful views and perfect weather. These are the words that best describe our ride in the Wachau Valley. It took place in the middle-end of June and the conditions were perfect. Having only taken a three-day tour, we missed some of the attractions on offer, yet another reason to return. We do recommend crossing... More

We rented a car and within less than an hour we arrived at Sankt Pölten which is an interesting town to walk around. We then proceeded to Melk, visiting the the town and the abbey, and then continued to Krems and durnstein, returning to vienna in the evening. Very nice views, pleasant towns, enough history and art and architecture to... More
