Whenever my wife and I have traveled, I often look for a tour that is out the ordinary from what we do at home and hopefully a little more adventurous. We had planned for a trip to Prague and Vienna back last September and during that time I read tour books, visited tour sites like TripAdvisor and I try to... More

Wachau valley is an easy day trip out of Vienna. We went in a private car with guide and stopped at Heillingen Kreuz Monastery, then Mayerling Hunting Lodge. Durnstein, is a beautiful old town, if you can time it to be there in between the river boats, so that it is quiet. A beautiful cemetery filled with flowers and a... More

The Wachau is a mountainous (not alpine sized mountains but substantial) region between Linz and Vienna that is dissected by the Danube. The hills and valley floors are covered in vineyards and the peaks are dotted with castles and ruins everywhere you look. Spend some time in one of the many heurigen's that are sprinkled throughout the region. The heurigen's... More

We took the boat from Melk to Krems using DDSG Blue Danube. (There is another company, Brandner, which has an identical offer but we did not find it easy to use their online reservation system; DDSG has a better site. However, online reservation was probably not necessary.) The landing stage is well signposted in Melk. It was a bit of... More

We traveled up the Danube on the Viking River Boat - Kara. An absolutely stunning portion of the river Valley. Literally castles, fortresses, ruins, and beautiful churches around every bend in the lush rich valley. Corn, wheat fields, and forests. Vineyards stair stepping up the rolling hills. Be sure to stake out a claim on top of your river ship... More

It started at the pick up which was done at our hotel, nice transportation vehicles very new and well suited, we got the package through the concierge at the hotel. Then the company we did the trip with took us to a central station where they unite the different groups per destination. Our trip was via bus and no complaints... More

I visited Wachau Valley with City Discovery tours. It cost €70 and takes 8hours. They do hotel pick up but also stop at the main train station. Firstly you travel by bus along the Danube, passing vineyards and small villages such as Krems. The tour guide spoke Italian, German, Spanish & English. At Spitz you board the boat for a... More

We drove through the valley on our cruise and did not want to miss a second of these views! Absolutely lovely. I was so impressed, I would love to go spend a month or two in these villages!

We took the tour to Wachau Valley and Boat Tour with City Discoveries. We went with our three small children. It can only be described as beautiful. The children (4, 6 and 12 years old) were not distressed, but very comfortable. The boat ride was comfortable with plenty of beautiful castles on cliffs. The food on board was very good.
