First of all, the Troodos mountains are fantastically beautiful and it will be worth your while to spend some time driving to the small villages which grow grapes and make wine. The churches are very old; some at least 1500 years old. The frescos have been preserved because the islands conquerors never made it up into the mountains to destroy... More

I went to Cyprus last november, and the churches were one of the main reasons of my trip. If you don't have much time and have to choose, the best for me are: Panagia tou Araka, Agios Ioannis Lampadistis, and Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis. The whole Troodos area is very beautiful, specially for the autumn foliage. The Platania forest is... More

A must during your stay in Cyprus is to hire a car and tour into the Troodos mountains. There are breathtaking views, fabulous monasterys (Kiku is the best) and charming villages all around... but stay on the routes marked in red on the map... yellow ones are very narrow or rough and white ones are more like farm tracks than... Make sure if you are travelling up to Troodos have a warm jumper or coat in your bag, because after coming from a warmer area the temperature drops very quickly and gets cold. Some nice little cafe and the meals are inexpensive. More

Or almost the best, since they also have beaches, ancient temples, mountain,... Of all about 12 Painted Churches we visited 4 or 5 churches only. The small, very old churches are truly amazing, as their painting are even more amazing. The churches are in good condition, well kept, accessible, though sometimes not so easy to find (even with GPS, even... More

In the rather depleted panorama of Cyprus' attractions, these UNESCO World Heritage sites really stand out. I guess a combination of very dry climate, mild winters and good safekeeping make the 8-900 years old frescos look like they were painted a few months ago. Not to be missed and much better with a knowledgeable guide. More

I was there two years ago, and for me was the better of the trip. Wonderful painted in a wonderful location. Just a little problem, I was there two years ago and for me it was the best trip. Wonderful paintings in a wonderful setting. The only problem is that not always is avalaible the person who have the key... More
