There are two parts to go to here and it's worth doing both. First is the medieval fort, which you tour on your own, using the guide following the numbers. We arrived at the perfect time to have just enough time to go through the fort before the 4 PM guided tour of the Chateaux Renissainnce. The rooms are beautiful.... More

Oddly the castle, which dates back to around 1150, or perhaps even further, to Roman times, sits in a hollow below the small village of Beaufort. It is however, protected from behind by a sheer cliff and at one time had a wide deep moat across the front. There is easy access to this ruin and is worth a visit

We were a bit fooled by the fact that only the medieval part is included in the entry ticket. Don't be mistaken: the castle IS nice, but it is a short visit for the price... therefor just an 'average' mark here... The renaissance part (which looks much nicer) can be visited with a guide, but we didn't have the time... More

Interesting building with a lot of history. Guide in paper available (included in ticket price) in at least 4-5 different languages. The intended route is not always very clear, sometimes you find afterwards, you'd taken the wrong direction: there are numbers for several parts, but not every part/room is numbered, and no direction to the next number is given. The... More

Despite arriving behind a coach load of tourists, we enjoyed meandering around the ruins. The guide notes in English gave a briefly described route and some explanations but could have been more comprehensive. Not so the family history sheet which ran to two full pages! The views of the surrounding countryside were wonderful. We didn't visit the renaissance house. It... More

There is the ancient castle - a ruin- and the renaissance one which you can only go around on a conducted tour. The day we went it was in french and german, we managed to follow the french one and it was very interesting. The ruins would be great for children to explore.

About 14km from Echternach, you will find a Beaufort Castle, a ruins of Medival fortress and adjacent Renaissance chateau. The fortress dating from 11th century and the chateau from 1650. The chateau took some damage during the Battle of the Bulge but was restored to it's former glory. Both are the property of the State. PS. Don't miss the famous... More

We took our daughter to visit the castle on a Sunday afternoon and had a great time. The medieval castle is mostly outdoors so take that into consideration when planning your visit. There was lots to explore and nothing that a two year old could break so we had fun climbing up and down over the ruins pretending to dance... More
