Description: There is one word above all others that screams 'Reykjavik Nightlife...
There is one word above all others that screams 'Reykjavik Nightlife': Kaffibarinn. Not everybody loves the place, but everyone knows exactly where it is and would be sad if it ever closed down. But there is very little risk of that, if the queues outside are anything to go by. Kaffibarinn (along with dearly departed Sirkus) is probably THE place responsible for creating Reykjavik's party town reputation. Its heady mix of hyper-uber-cool music, people in trend-setting clothes, late night drunkenness and not nearly enough space for all the dancing sweaty bodies... well, that's really what it's all about. It was in Kaffibarinn that the distinctive 101 music taste and fashion sense were born, and from there they took over the world (in a modest sort of way). The place is open for coffee, beer and something to eat during the day. Disc jockey every night with various music. Mostly House during the weekends. They don't like photography inside the bar. It has been like that for many years and they do like their privacy. It's nothing personal.

Great coffee!

Realy creamy coffee and great sandwiches! My son said it was the best ham and cheese sandwich he ever tasted... Well, it is good, but the is it the best....?

It was very hot hot in Kaffibarinn when we were there which made it hard to enjoy our beer and Brennivin. It was warm outside (65 degrees f) and they do not have air conditioning. It would probably be a lot better when it is cooler outside. Other than the heat, this place was fine - a local and tourist... More

Iceland is a great place to go for cool bars that generally don't try as hard as places like Berlin. King of the effortless cool bars in Iceland is Kaffibarinn. It has a very relaxed vibe. It feels like a locals bar but has a most friendly atmosphere to it. Convieniently located in the centre, this is a must do... More

I seldom go to bars, but as this one was recommended, we went, and glad we were. Three different drafts, one more delicious than the last. And the atmosphere, so funky and real. Next time I'm in Reykjavik, I will go there and drink slower so I can stay longer.

Super bar with good music and full of young people. Drinks are great and the atmosphere is trendy. This is a must try night out!

Nice place, good vibe (from the customers). Really cool music. However, as other reviews have noted here, they REALLY do not like people taking photos! We took one picture (just of ourselves, not of other customers, the staff or even the bar itself really). A woman seemed to instantly pop up out of nowhere to rudely snap at us. I... More

Tucked away in the central area and very English feel to the Pub... Good service and nice drinks. Great for conversations and a starting or ending nightlife.

This bar is really nice. Great vibe, cool staff and reasonable happy hour prices. The music is not commercial and it gets better as the night progresses on the weekends. Good local nightlife experience surrounded by an older crowd!

Worth a visit, kind of quaint and quirky, if your not used to Icelandic culture, it can be quite an unusual experience, but most people we met were friendly. Quite a lot of drunken people turf out onto the streets at closing, but we didn't see any trouble.

Was hoping this would be kinda cool, it looked enticing from outside. The bar staff on the night that we visited was not very friendly and it seemed we were stopping them having a conversation with a colleague. It was a Sunday night though and it was very quiet. Maybe try again on another visit
