Enjoyable way to learn about Icelandic art

The staff is very welcoming in this rather small place. A great selection of Icelandic art in just a few galleries.

The museum itself is pretty small with just a few galleries. The exhibition was themed when we were there, and there was some focus on Icelandic artists. Even as someone who isn't a great fan of contemporary art, it was interesting to wander around for an hour or so, but I wouldn't plan on spending all day here unless you... More

We usually avoid museums and galleries whilst on holiday as we're always disappointed. However we had time to kill and this looked different. My partner and I both loved this gallery as it is interactive and digital. Our favourite exhibition was a series of different projections, some had music and were in there own 'rooms'. It was really quiet whilst... More

how they can charge what they do for a few rooms with a small number of poor pieces of art i really cant understand. it took us longer to take our coats of and leave them in the lockers than it did to look around. we went the city museum afterwards and paid much less for an altogether excellent experience.... Having been to many fine modern art galleries in Europe and the US, unfortunately this does not come close. The exhibition space is small, and the art/installation art on display was most uninspiring, I did my own whirlwind tour in 15 minutes. There are better places to visit and browse such as the Harpa Concert Hall

My favourite art gallery I have seen in my life so far has been the Tate Modern in Liverpool and this was even better than that. The Erró exhibition was amazing and confirms how left wing Iceland is. If you are into pop art, you must go there! The staff member we spoke to was excellent, he gave us directions... More

I have to say I've given it 4 stars because of the staff, who were very helpful explaining where all the art galleries/photo galleries were in the area and suggested a tour between them. THe gallery itself, in terms of art and display, probably a 3. Don't expect anything London sized here! THe building itself is beautifully converted, and the... More

I really enjoyed this museum. They had a stunning installation in one room. They also had a rather amusing retrospective of 1980s video art which was a bit of a trip down memory lane (more for style than anything as I didn't know the local artists). They rotate exhibitions, so it would be a different experience every time. I believe... More
