This was my first stop once I got into Reykjavik after consulting with the tourist center. It was a bit chilly and windy but I managed to find my way, you can pretty much see it from afar without totally depending on a map. Despite the scafolding I found it quite beautiful especially the inside. more

I am very sad I did not check the reviews BEFORE I decided to go up. Although there are extensive works going on, the inside of the church was quite impressive and I thought it may be worth going up anyway. Please do not waste you money, as the scaffolding block most the the view, and the side looking to... more

I wish they had finished the repairs before our visit because the scaffolding really takes away the beauty of the church. It is clearly a national icon to be proud of and graces the cover of many tourist maps, etc. However in it's current state it is not worth stopping at. more

A plain interior. Exterior surrounded by scaffolding. 2 Kr each to go up tower. Not particularly good views as scenery hidden by wood and scaffolding. more

Hallgrimskirkje is visible from most of Reykjavik and serves as a navigational landmark for visitors. The massive basalt structure is currently being restored and the tower is completely covered by scaffolding. The soaring interior, however, is well worth a visit. In clear weather, the view from the top of the tower is splendid, though windy. There is a fee payable... more

I thought it was kind of pricey, considering we stretched our time up there to maybe 10 minutes. Scaffolding was up on three sides, fourth side was completely boarded up, so I don't know what we might have seen otherwise. I did not think the scaffolding got in the way much (obviously the people charging didn't either, since you still... more

I went up the church tower in early February, but the view was not the slightest bit impressive - if taking photos you have to zoom out in order to cut out any scaffolding poles and the view is very limited. The Perlan is much more advisable for views of the city. more

When we visited in October 2008, Hallgrimur's Church was covered in scaffolding and surrounded by construction workers. The enormous, stark interior was startling, and the view from the top was worth the price. (We paid about $8.50 USD for two people to take the elevator.) The view is blocked to one direction, and the windows are rather small, but the... more

this church was completely covered in scaffolding in June, 2008. The interior of the church is amazing, though. You may want to check on construction times if making a special trip to see this. more
