The statue was close to our hotel so we walked up the gentle slope to the statue. Once there you have good views of Harpa and a passing local pointed out the Aurora overhead although it was hard to make out due to the many lights.

If you are walking by the statue it is a nice area to rest and enjoy the view, but I wouldn't make it a destination by itself.

If you have the time, I would recommend that you walk by this park at some point. It is on a grassy hill and you can see Harpa and part of downtown from it. The statue is interesting, quite the contrast from the Leif Eriksson statue at Hallgrímskirkja, this one is more understated. There are plenty of benches, so if... More

This is a lovely statue of a Viking figure on a small hill by the waterfront. Having said that, the houses and statues in the nearby Bernhöftsbakarí statue garden are nicer and more modern.

The statute is beautiful and so is the view. Learn some history ahead of time and it will be more special.

The sculpture is impressive and gives good views over the sea as it is on a slight hill. I am glad I took a picture at the beginning of the holiday because by the end, the poor man had a cone on his head!

Impressive statue on a grassy knoll, overlooking the harbor and old city center Too bad about that hotel as your view of the sea will be hampered. What a shame. Good place to start your historical walk through the city.

I saw this statue walking back from Solfar and walked up the small hill to have a look. It's quite understated (it's easy to walk past and miss it) but is very imposing up close; the kind of statue you expect to see in Iceland - an ancient warrior wearing armour with spear & shield. As other reviews have said,... More

standing alone on a strip of the boulevard dividing the city center from the shopping areas, the statue is a great place to view the city center from the ocean & the opera house to the city hall. It is also a good place to relax even on a wintry day as the soft wind from the ocean energizes one... More

Sitting on top of that small hill overlooking the harbor at what is left of the view we used to have from there, under the statue of Reykjavik's first inhabitant makes me remember my childhood when large hordes of kids raced down the slope on their sleighs. Sadly the view is now blocked by that oversized Music hall as well... More
