Description: At The Cinema, Old Harbour Village No2, are shown quality Icelandic nature...
At The Cinema, Old Harbour Village No2, are shown quality Icelandic nature films; volcanoes, northern lights, flora and fauna. The Cinema is located in the loft of an old fishermen´s dwellings, where the fishermen used to mend their nets, tar their boats, salt their fish and overnight in bed bunks. Redoing the loft the atmosphere of the old life was kept as much as possible, even so that the salt smell still lingers, but the main object was to provide ideal settings for showing quality Icelandic nature and documentary films. By reading the reviews of our visitors on The Trip Advisor pages it seems that we are having success ...

What a find! Just steps from my hotel. Choose your movie times, select a baked treat and sit back. No snoozing will happen during any of these cinematography marvels. Comfortable choice of seating including leather oversized, warm and welcoming atmosphere and wonderfully hosted. A don't miss for sure!

I saw films on the Northern Lights and how to photograph them; Eyjafjallajökull; and how Iceland was formed. The emphasis is on beautiful photography rather than a heavy documentary. Once or twice computer icons appeared on the screen. However, the great thing is the atmosphere of the cinema. It is in a former fishermen's hut where you can sit on... More

My mother and I stopped in here at the last minute, and it was a great decision. It was not what I was expecting; the viewing room was a large room with comfortable couches. It really does feel cozy. The woman who showed the film was also very friendly. She gave us some insight into Iceland as well as some... More

Thank you both very much for your visit and taking the time to write a review. We are glad to hear that you had a good experience here with us - but you said some information was lacking. As we don´t know which film you did see, and it would be helpful for us to know what you would have... More

This is an independent cinema in an up and coming area of Reykjavik. The films are made by the people who own and run the place and are very interesting. I'm sure a visit here would be good for school groups, especially for geography or science pupils. We arrived and had free wine and nibbles. Bryndis (the film maker's wife)... More

Thank you Amy for a very good review! We have probably had over 100 different schools visiting us here at The Cinema, and the teachers comment on how much it adds to the Iceland visit to see the films. Hope to see you here again many times, The Cinema Staff More

We were in Reykjavik 11-15 March during the storm and with our tours cancelled we were desperate to find attractions that would take us inside. This was a gem. Watching the BIRTH OF AN ISLAND was extremely interesting. There are other Icelandic nature films available but this one appealed the most. I was surprised at how quiet Valdimar Leifsson was.... Thank you very much for coming to The Cinema and taking the time to write a review. We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed our film, but a bit surprised that you found the place gloomy considering the comments from other reviewers about it being especially cozy and welcoming. But maybe the bad weather just had depressing affect... More

We spent a dull late afternoon watching two of the three shows whilst waiting for our third, but unsuccessful, attempt at seeing the Northern Lights for real. A cosy attic room with sofa, chairs, candles in a homely atmosphere. Two beautifully photographed and narrated shows on what Iceland has to show including the still active volcano. We also had scrumptious hot... More

Very enjoyable just over an hour in an atmospheric old loft watching superb photography and thoughtful editing that gives a real feel for what Iceland is all about. Mostly about the physical geography/geology with a scattering of human interest. Got to taste free hakarl as well. A bit pricey at 1500 kroner but cheaper than the volcano house.

We really enjoyed our visit here. Cosy setting - candles, sofas, tables. Informative films with superb photography. Friendly staff. A highlight of our trip and well worth a visit.

This is such a nice place to visit after a day of sightseeing. It is really unusual. The films seemed to show at 4, 5 & 6pm (when we were there) and the one we watched was interesting. I must admit to falling asleep for a few minutes but that was a reflection on the comfort of the chairs rather... More
