Description: Icelandic Mountain Guides is Iceland's premier adventure tour operator...
Icelandic Mountain Guides is Iceland's premier adventure tour operator. For over 20 years we have been in continuous operation of offering adventures in the wilderness of Iceland and Greenland. The company was established in 1994 by four young mountain and outdoor enthusiasts and pioneers whose aim was to introduce the wonders of Icelandic nature to travelers from all over the world. We started by offering Glacier Walks in Skaftafell and later on Solheimajokull. Hiking, backpacking and other adventures and expeditions in Iceland and Greenland soon followed. Today Icelandic Mountain Guides is a company that offers adventure tours ranging from short day tours to longer multi-day expeditions in the great outdoors in both summer and winter. So whether it is the exploration of the icescapes of glaciers, crossing of impressive highlands, trekking in the extraordinary rhyolite massifs or hiking in fascinating valleys, our aim is to Make Every Moment an Experience.

We took a tour with a friend who is a guide for Reykjavik Excursions. We saw several glaciers and among them was the "creeping glacier". When you stand on it, you can actually feel the ice beneath you move !. The entire experience was like a black and white montage. The sky was steel grey, the ice was blue underneath... More

We did the Skaftafell glacier walk, which was good fun. We were told this is the glacier where they filmed movies like Interstellar and Batman Begins, which was pretty cool. Some members in our group ended up re-enacting scenes from the movies. It was an informative, refreshing day out. Also, the ice on the glacier has been steadily reducing over... More

We have booked a 'Walk through fire and ice' tour and Artni was our tour guide. We have visited a frozen cave with unbelievable ice stalagmites, beautiful waterfalls, a valley of hot springs, 2008 earthquake exhibition and had a fantastic glacier walk! Even though the weather was a bit rainy initially, we have bravely put all the gear on and... More

Willi was our guide and he was tremendous! There were four of us on this excursion myself (54), my son (14) and a mother and daughter (both grown). The weather was windy, cold and wet but the trip was wonderful. Between the gear we all brought and what the guide provided we were pretty well equipped for the weather. Wonderful... More

I booked to do a glacier walk online three days before. As the weather was bad on the day, I rang the number in the email to double check that it was still going ahead. I was told that due to the bad weather it was cancelled. We decided to drive to the place later anyway and walk around ourselves,... More

Hi there I was sad to see your comment and I looked into the matter to see what went wrong there. We operate glacier walks in two different areas along the South Coast of Iceland, both on Sólheimajökull Glacier and also in Skaftafell National Park ... about 130 km apart. On that day, due to bad weather we had cancelled... More

Hubby and I and our kids (21 & 19) decided to do the Solheimajokull Glacier walk. I am not particularly adventurous, and the idea of putting crampons on and walking on a load of ice did not appeal one bit! In fact, for the 10/15 minute walk to the Glacier with our lovely Guide (sorry forgot his name) I almost... More

Definitely the most professional tour guide company we dealt with during our time in Iceland. Even better, was the skaftafell glacier walk tour we took with them. Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and worth the money.

Took a glacier walk out of Skaftafell with my two teenagers. It was the highlight of our trip. Just amazing and beautiful. Did not find it particularly physically challenging, which was fine. A nice brisk walk out with stops for picture taking. We would have seen more except about half our group dawdled at every opportunity. Due to this we... More

They were able to fit me in last minute for a 3 1/2 glacier hiking tour the morning of the hike. This was the absolute highlight of my trip to Iceland. I loved every minute of the hike. I would highly recommend this company & would definitely use them again!!

I spent an entire day with the Icelandic Mountain Guides doing the Take a Walk on the Ice Side tour. The guides were knowledgeable, and their love for mountaineering is evident. One of the guides kept finding "hidden treasures" that he would show us along the glacier, including a breathtakingly beautiful ice cave. The tour was informative and super fun.... More
