Icelandic Mountain Guides is Iceland's premier adventure tour operator...

Icelandic Mountain Guides is Iceland's premier adventure tour operator. For over 20 years we have been in continuous operation of offering adventures in the wilderness of Iceland and Greenland. The company was established in 1994 by four young mountain and outdoor enthusiasts and pioneers whose aim was to introduce the wonders of Icelandic nature to travelers from all over the world. We started by offering Glacier Walks in Skaftafell and later on Solheimajokull. Hiking, backpacking and other adventures and expeditions in Iceland and Greenland soon followed. Today Icelandic Mountain Guides is a company that offers adventure tours ranging from short day tours to longer multi-day expeditions in the great outdoors in both summer and winter. So whether it is the exploration of the icescapes of glaciers, crossing of impressive highlands, trekking in the extraordinary rhyolite massifs or hiking in fascinating valleys, our aim is to Make Every Moment an Experience.

Max was a fantastic guide, and the lamp soup at Hotel Anna was so delicious. This tour was the first of several, which set a high standard for everything else that followed. Will definitely try to use Icelandic Mountain Guides for our next trip.

The tour was so much better than just a standard Golden Circle tour. First it is a small group of only about 14 and the stop at the tomato farm and the dairy farms added real interest to the tour. Anna the guide was very nice and tried hard to find a spotting of the lights but the weather did... More

This tour was mind-blowing! Our guide, Kalle, was very entertaining and informative. He made sure everyone was safe, got great pictures, and had a good time. I especially liked it when he singled out one moron in our group who kept breaking parts of the glacier/frozen puddles with his axe and Kalle asked him if he liked to destroy beautiful... More

We took a 2-day Golden Circle Tour with Mountain Guides and both days were great. It felt like a very private tour -I was with my husband, and there were only 2 other people on our first day and just the two of us on the second. We really liked the fact that besides the typical touristy landmarks, they showed... More

We did the Blue Ice Experience glacier hike, which our tour company Nordic Visitor booked for us as part of our ring road itinerary. We turned up, parked the car and walked over to the check-in hut. After checking in, we lined up to have our crampons sized to our feet. At this point you can also used the WCs... More

We had an ice climbing and glacier walking tour with Matteo. He first gave us a thorough introduction to Iceland's natural landmarks, and taught us properly how to ice climb. He also led us through the Sólheimajökull glacier and took photos of us amidst stunning views. On the way back, he also led us to some beautiful waterfalls. I highly... More

Iceland's glaciers are awe inspiring, so the chance to walk on one was not to be missed. We booked for the Blue Ice walk on the Svínafellsjökull glacier tongue departing from Skaftafell. The walk was completely sold with 15 on the walk. Our guide Hendrik was excellent with a great sense of humour. After kitting us out with crampons and... More

My husband and I recently visited Iceland and took several moderately active tours. Hot Springs and Lava Caves by Icelandic Mountain Guides was amazing Max, our tour guide, could not have been friendlier and more knowledgeable. He picked us up in a large sporty van and experienced each part of the excursion with a total of 4 of us on... More

We had a great experience on this guided walk. Our guide Chris was excellent and very knowledgeable. He gave us a lot of information and answered all our questions. The glacier itself was very beautiful. We went on the first tour of the day so we practically had the whole glacier to ourselves. It is startling to see how much... More

From what I'm seeing on line, there appear to be several tours that include Northern Lights and Lobster at the end of a tour day that apparently includes other events rated highly. BUT if you are booking the evening only tour (the one automatically offered by TripCreator), beware. Here are the caveats: -- with other night tours that are only... More
