Took the tour from the BSI Terminal In Reykjavik. Knowledgeable and interesting commentary by the guide there and back. Most people on the bus were not on the glacier walking tour so the four hardy souls who were were going onto the glacier were dropped off at the end of a rough gravel road about 500 metres from the glacier... Johno was our guide and he did a wonderful job taking my Mother, Husband , his friend and myself around the glacier. He taught us so much about the ice, the ashes and our surroundings. Taking us to fun surprises like a tunnel in the ice were memories that we will always cherish. I highly recommend this experience!

You have to take the glacier walk! Our guide, Jono, was excellent and very experienced, having guided and climbed in Alaska, Patagonia, Antarctica and New Zealand. He is also a NOLS and an EMT...very impressive creds, for sure. He was so knowledgeable and took us into some impressive areas of the Solheimajokull glacier, which is one of the glaciers monitored... We treated ourselves while in Iceland and signed up for the glacier hike with the Icelandic Mountain Guides. It's a little pricier than we normally spend for excursions, but it was totally worth it. We had a little confusion with the bus pick up and trying to find the correct bus at the BSI terminal. We were on a small... More

We had such a great time on this tour. The guides were friendly and very informative. Everything went smoothly - including the pick up! The hike isn't very strenuous, the views are breathtaking & the glacier reflects a beautiful blue-like colour (only in winter though!). We brought our lunch with us and ate on the coach before the hike. The... More

Brilliant day! We are a family of 4 with a 12 and 14 year old. We all loved this day out. The bus pick up from hotel was perfect, the bus journey along the south coast was stunning, the information from the driver was very informative, the mountain guides team at the glacier were true professionals - definitely recommended. When we first decided we were going to Iceland this was at the top of my to do list and it did not disappoint! Even before we arrived in Iceland the Icelandic Mountain Guides staff were very helpful and professional when I sent an email asking what sort of clothing we would need and if anything was available for hire.... I wish I could do this again! If you have the chance, go! You'll be provided with cramp-ons, harness, and ice pick. You don't need 'special' shoes, just good hiking shoes, or sturdy snow boots, basically not trainers or Uggs. Wear the warmest clothes you have, particularly socks and gloves. As you're moving, that will keep you warm to an... More
