Less than two hours drive from Reykjavík is Eyjafjallajökull glacier, and just a little further the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue extends down from Mýrdalsjökull. We take an easy walk on crampons up on to the ice field where a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses awaits discovery.

Remarkable and unfortunately fast disappearing glacial ice that is dramatically coated with black volcanic ash-- on section is nicknamed "Mordor". We took a glacier hike in Norway on a sparkling white/ shades of blue glacier that glittered in a bright sunny day. This was almost the opposite experience of blackened ice structures lurking in the fog and rain. Our guide,... More

Full day trip, but beautiful drive to and from the glacier hike. Winter gear recommended but was warm the day we hiked so we were down to shirts and wind breakers. Company rents hiking boots which you will need for using crampons. Some physically demanding sections but guide paces the trip for the group. No food provided on trip, so... More

My parents and I did this tour during our August trip to Iceland. The tour departed exactly on time and the drive and driver were very pleasant. The tour group was about 30 people, but we were split into groups of about 10 once we actually did the glacier walk. Our guide, Hawk, as he told us to call him,... More

Kamil was an amazing tour guide and the glacier was absolutely beautiful. Such a fun experience! The waterfalls on the way back from the glacier were great as well. Definitely do this over just the southern bus tour - awesome to get out and really experience the landscape.

Kamil, a Polish native fron New Jersey, was our guide. He was amazing. I was apprehensive about walking on ice, but it turned out to be a highligt of our trip to Iceland.

We had a great day out walking on the glacier with our guide August (sp?). He was very knowledgeable, confident, and pleasant. We were fascinated by all the things we learnt about glaciers in general and this one in particular. Everything went smoothly on our trip - a smaller shuttle bus picked us up from our accommodation (it was earlier... More

100% worth the day. The glacier hike was absolutely breathtaking; also superbly organized and well-facilitated by Jono, who knew his stuff and threw in just the right amount of breaks to get a breather and learn a little about the physics, history, and future of the glacier. The stops at both waterfalls were quick but exciting. You can walk right... More

After reading good reviews booked this trip through mountain guides. Due to bad weather out tour was cancelled - we had a weekend with bad storms. But would recommend based on communication and ease of refunding cost of cancelled trip. With the weather in Iceland being as unpredictable as it is it is good to know that the company make... More

This was by far and away the highlight of our holiday. The bus journey to get there was fairly long but the tour guide on the bus was very informative and made the trip much better by giving interesting facts along the way. The walk on the glacier was incredible, the views were amazing and the tour guide was very... More

A great day. Guided well- answering questions, right amount of geography and fun! Taken a different route to other groups. Stopped for photos occasionally- not too often but just enough! I think each trip would be a unique experience!
