this is a well frquented place, and they serve quite tasy food in jars. We had smoked puffin and hering etc. Really good. The place is welcoming and lively and comfortable. And if you go during Happy Hour the Wine or beer is even affordable.

The bar provided a very nice atmosphereatmosphere and the staff were very friendly (an experience I have had throughout Iceland) as for the food well eating minke whale is for the foolhardy until you try it it might be the most delicious thing that I have ever eaten imagine rump steak with the tenderness of fillet. Enjoyed our evening and... More

This is great local bar and restaurant. The staff is super nice, and nice, casual atmosphere for a night out, a date or catching up with folks out of the cold. Recommend the food. The meat soup is authentic and delicious and VERY filling. The burger & sweet potato fries are yummy. They also have a good happy hour from... More

If you're strolling along in Reykjavik looking for a place to eat you'll want to try Islenski Barinn for sure. After searching for a good place to get the full Icelandic restaurant experience my friend and I circled all the way back to the Barinn. It's very close to Loft Hostel, where we were staying the night before attacking the... More

This is my favorite bar in town. The staff is so nice, and the atmosphere perfect for a night out, a date or just a small chat with friends before going all crazy at the local clubs/bars. Recommend the food, the scones are my personal favorite. But the burger of the day is a close follow up. You wont be... More

Apparently this bar had fed the protesters outside the bar and then allowed some of them to escape into the bar when the tear gas was released. The customers had a great view of the entire protest and the photographs were taken on that night as it was so important a historical event in Iceland. Our bar man was also... More

We stayed at The Borg next door to the Icelandic Bar in November 2012. It was a great place to meet up with friends. The beer selection at the bar was very good, all sorts, something for everyone if you have the time in Reykjavik to try them all. The menu was surprisingly extensive and pretty adventurous. We enjoyed the... More

I would skip it. The reason we came was the Taste of Iceland menu. The menu contains foods that are mainly unpalatable, but are part of an "experience." There HAS to be somewhere else to go for this though. The waiter spent most of his time texting. We had to walk to the bar to get refills on water and... More

A wonderful place with great staff. We wanted to try some "traditional" local foods and well and truly got them here! My second visit, we had the taster board with a shark starter (not for the faint hearted!! ) and the traditional Brennevin shot to chase it down, then on to the main event, three starters (smoked meat and local...
