The Solfar Sun Voyager is a massive steel sculpture found on the coastal walking/jogging/biking path around the harbour, near the city centre. It resembles a Viking longship. Great for photos at sunset, as it has the harbour and Mt. Esja as background.

Solfar is located within walking distance of Harpa. It's right on the water and there is a little bit of bench seating there. The sculpture is very pretty and it's a nice place to sit and take a little break. If you're going to Harpa it's less than five minute walk to Solfar.

Very simple in design but it's easy to see that it's a Viking ship. With the water and the mountains in the background you can imagine what one might have "felt" like many years ago.

Beautiful sculpture and surroundings. Lots of places to sit and relax around it, but it gets quite crowded.

I would include a visit to Solfar as part of a walking exploration of the harbour front and city centre. It was the first place I went on my first evening in Reykjavik. I had seen pictures of it and was keen to catch some photos in the early evening light. It is a beautiful piece of art and well... More

Get there in time for a sunset! Absolutely stunning views of the sky, sea, and sculpture. Can be a bit busy with jostling for position for photos.

This has to be on the tour of sights in Reykjavik but the main challenge is finding a different angle to photograph it from. Sunrise was too early to it was a sunset photo shoot for me!

Walk along the old harbor in Reykjavik, past the Harpa concert hall, and you come to what looks like the skeleton of a Viking ship, facing east. You're at the Sun Voyager, a beautiful view point. The only thing that spoils it is the traffic whizzing by at all hours of the day and night.

I always think this sculpture looks more like Whale Bones versus a viking ship, but no matter, I love it. You walk along the harbor to see it, which is a beautiful stroll. If you go in the late evening it is rarely busy and looks good in the twilight.
