With the focus on whale watching North Sailing has branched out and runs restaurant Gamli Baukur and Café Skuld, both situated in the harbour area.North Sailing owns and operates six traditional Icelandic oak boats which are environmentally friendly and moreover preserve national heritage that otherwise would be lost.North Sailing aims to enable visitors to experience the marvellous nature at the edge of the arctic for times to come. The schooners of North Sailing are descendants of the first decked sailing vessels in north Iceland in the 19th century. The knowledge and know-how of handling and maintaining gaff rigged ships had been all but lost in Iceland. The schooners of North Sailing are now the only active vessels of its kind along Icelandic shores.North Sailing has made an effort to rekindle relations with sailors of other North Atlantic nations. Húsavík has now become a destination port for sailing vessels exploring subarctic waters. Among them are the majestic gaff rigged ships Dagmar Aaen, owned by Arved Fuchs and the Greenland explorer Activ. « less

It was a little chilly but luckily they provide you with something warmer to wear. Loved the guides on the boat. We took a 4 hour puffins, sails and whales tour and it was great! Felt good to be out on the water ;) More

The is definitely something you have to do when in Iceland. I am not that good on choppy water, but absolutely had to do this. The sea was relatively calm and the fact that we were constantly on the look out for whales meant that the trip was not spoilt in any way. Managed to get some great views of... More

We reserved with North Sailing in Olafsfjordur instead of Husavik, it was a new location. There was only one ship sailing from this village. The bad thing is that chances to see whales are reduced (more ships, wider the covered area). On the other hand, if you see a whale, you now that it is going to be all for... More

The North Sailing whale watching in Husawick is a family owned bussiness and this you can really feel by the warmth that this family and their crew is giving. I went out with them twice as I thought that this was really a great trip. The people were wonderful and really proffesional and the sailing boat, the scooner that they... More

During our stay in Iceland my boyfriend and me came to Husavik to watch the whales. There are two companies who offer whale watching tours there. We decided for North Sailing because of the starting time of the tour and were really much satisfied in the end. As it was already off season in Iceland it was quite easy to... More

We saw two hump backs rounded off with a mug of hot chocolate and a cinnamon bun. Plus best weather they had had all year - what more could you want? More

We were in Husavik during the shoulder/off season, and Gentle Giants either was closed, or IIRC, only had an early morning trip, so North Sailing was our only choice. But we ended up happy with it. The North Sailing wooden boats are really quite beautiful, I thought - especially the sail boats, but the non-sail boat that we took was... More

Although people say its marvellous be ready to end up very very dissappointed. They say the chane of seeing a whale on this trip is about 98%. Well we did see a whale so I believe that the statistic is not exaggerating. But it is not what you would like to get. After hal an hour of sailing a whale... More

Dear customer We are truly sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your whale watching tour. In every tour, our staff tries their best to locate and observe whales in the bay but as you know, wildlife is unpredictable and we have no choice but to accept what is offered to us at each time. Our success rate is... More
