Subarctic gardens in the heart of the city

Surprisingly extensive gardens in the heart of Akureyri with a pleasant cafe in the centre of the park. Great for kids to explore with lots of interesting features.

An unexpected pleasure wandering round these gardens - so unexpected for the location. Well worth a look at. Has a nice café and toilets. Just a short walk from the centre.

A lovely garden, even on a chilly summer day. When we arrived, I put off by the tour bus people who were so anxious to get their pictures that they'd knock you out of the way. But fortunately, the buses don't give them much time, so they shoot and run. Then we and very few other people had this lovely... More

An astonishing array of plants, made even more so by the fact that this lies in the shadow of the Arctic Circle. No charge for admission, and very much worth the short walk from the city center. Got some great shots of my daughter standing among the poppies. Beautiful & peaceful...

Went here on a recommendation and we were a little disappointment. The gardens were interesting but we didn't think that they were that special. It's a nice walk from the center of town to the gardens if you have the time.

Quite an outstanding collection, and surprising considering the expected limitations caused by area climate.

The botanical garden is a medium walk from the docks. But it is a wonderful place! There are many trees, planted beds, flowers in bloom and a restaurant! This is a sight not to be missed! It is strikingly different from most of the views of Iceland. Perhaps it gives a view of what the area was like before the... More

A nice stroll through the lovely town leads to a street where you will see steps going up to a church. Walk up these steps to front of church; head left up the street and you will find the gardens (just past the junior college campus). The flowers were vibrant during our visit in mid August 2015.

This garden is beautiful, peaceful, and smells wonderful. Could not figure out how they get all the flowers to thrive in such cold conditions! Worth a walk around while in Akureyri.
