This was something like I've never seen in my life! I just couldn't get over the mud pots just boiling away. The smell was not the greatest (smelled just like sulphur would) but to see the steam blowing out of the rock formations was just amazing! Walked around the entire section and the pots were are varying degrees of boiling..some... More

Many tours visit this grouping of mud pots in Namaskard, nearby to beautiful Akureyri in northern Iceland. Well-marked paths wind among the bubbling mud pots, which exude steam laden with sulfur fumes. The entire landscape us spooky these fascinating emissions are worth visiting Tip: do not wander off the paths, as the guide indicated that earthen crust is rather thin... More
