Description: The Forum Marinum Maritime Centre is a lively and versatile centre for...
The Forum Marinum Maritime Centre is a lively and versatile centre for maritime activities, comprising a national special maritime museum, and the Finnish Navy Museum. In addition to being a maritime place of interest, the Forum Marinum is also a venue for meetings and public events. The Cafe Restaurant Daphne serves cafe delicacies and a tasty, varied buffet lunch. The Museum Shop offers maritime gifts and other articles, literature and high-quality textiles. The museum provides several interesting temporary exhibitions during a year and displays also a very interesting boat collection. The maritime centre has a considerable collection of museum vessels: two tall sail ships, four naval ships and several smaller vessels, ranging from a steam harbour tugboat to a police boat. The museum ships are open during the summer months only, while the exhibitions are open throughout the year.

A delightful dining experience right next to the classic tall ship and the modern day Navy frigate. Highly recommend a stroll down the riverside to this cafe. An excellent cold buffet for €19. Hot buffet for €30. As always in Finland spotlessly clean but with somewhat grumpy service!

Nice open place to see old school sailing boat Suomen Joutsen, two military ships and one old Passenger vessel cruising between Finland and Sweden in 60s and 70s. And some old boats in the building for those who are really interested in seafaring.

The kids could have spent all day exploring the ships. This is the first museum we've ever visited where we have had a hard time getting the kids to leave.

An excellent centre but you might need two days if you want to visit all the sights! There is so much to see from wooden craft to naval ships, 3 masted schooner & 1950,s passenger ship,(where you can stay overnight).

We spent most of a day walking through modern and old naval ships with few areas out of bounds. The museum itself houses what must be the worlds largest collection of outboard motors. One can get right up to date and see how modern mega cruise liners are system built. Just a pity that there are very few English translations.... More

I visited the restaurant twice. The first serving was excellent, the other was not so good. Very good home smoked salmon. The lime flatfish was terrible. Any how, I will pick up there also in future.

I wanted to stay here, wanted to return here, but...it was late in the day, other destinations. Bus stop close, easy to get to and fro. If you like sea "stuff," (I do), a place to go.

I have visited most major naval museums around the Gulf of Finland and might have rated this the best in June when all the historic ships around were open which they were not in May. Anytime worth of a visit when combined only with the breathtaking Turku Castle and the nostalgic Bore ship museum hostel, open all times of a... More

This was such a wonderful place to visit. I'm not sure how it is for younger children. I had to put 'teens' in my review, but my daughter is 23 so not really a teenager anymore! More of the displays could have been translated into English, but we didn't have time to read them all anyway, so it would have... More

Nice old atmosphere to tell Finnish maritime history. Reasonable price to enter and kids under 8 was free. There is four different locations: Two indoor areas, outdoor area with couple of smaller ships and bigger ships in a river Aura. Big ships are closed in winter season. We visited only this main indoor area and checked smaller boats outside. Exhibition... More
