I have visited this museum many times. Upstairs it features contemporary art collections, which are usually of high quality (this time I visited the Turku Biennale), but what makes this museum unique is the archaeological excavation downstairs, on which the museum is built. It has many tales to tell about city life in medieval times, and as some parts of... More

It was very interesting to visit Aboa Vetus and it's quarter of old houses. The history is told through stories and old objects. You can even listen to sounds of some old instruments. The ruins are located underground so that creates special atmosphere. Nothing like this anywhere in Finland. Ars Nova is collection of installations of different artists. The installations... More

Below the museum is an archeologists paradise where many clues on early life in the town are being unearthed. Excellent guided tour. Above is an art collection with big names on "it makes you think" themes.

We first visited the museum a while ago , but we keep going there quite often, for the events they organize , but mostly for the lovely weekend brunch. One has there 3 in 1 , meaning that the museum self it´s really interesting, but one can have also there a lovely cake&coffee , or a tasty meal. When weather... More

I can warmly recommend Aboa Vetus and Ars Nova musem in Turku for everyone. Nice combination of fascinating history of Turku town and modern art! We went to this museum for getting something to do for rainy night. It was surprisingly interesting with very good exhibition of old Turku. Our kids (3 & 7) liked the place, too. At first... More

This is the best museum in Turku, in my opinion. Hundreds of years old cellars and streets that were found when they renovated the building above them. The museum isn't too big, even small children can easily walk the route around the cellars. Not claustrophobic at all because there is only walls and pavements, the ceilings are mostly collapsed during... More

If you wan't to visit just one historical place in Turku it would be difficult to choose between the castle and aboa vetus, but aboa vetus is much more diverse than the Castle. Deffinetly worth visiting and really interesting. Although I didn't like that much the modern part where is the changing collection. The entrance fee is although bit too... More

My girlfriend from Turku took me here on one of my first visits to the city. It's a great way to find out some of the early history of the city's formation and growth. Was great to be able to walk down into the past and see what things used to be like. As others have mentioned there are multiple... More

We only checked out the medieval town exhibit, not the contemporary art museum. It ranges from excellent to alright, with the permanent exhibition being for the most part very well thought out and presented. There's just the right amount of reading, doing, and things to see. The imagination is sparked in a satisfying manner all through. Be aware it's rather... More
