The place is usually popular during the summer when the place is green and the sun is shining and place is fully open. I went on a saturday in November so almost everything was closed and it was pretty dark but luckily there was snow all over as it had snowed a day before. The place looked wonderful laden in... This is a good place to spend some time outdoors walking in nature even if is so close to the centre. There are many old log buildings and it is an out-door museum, too. Great place to visit almost any time of the year. A great picnic during summer. Always windy.

Great nature, historical buildings transferred from different parts of Finland. Various museums near-by. Food services not very special. Reserve enough time and enjoy opportunity to swim as well. Great place for joggers from Hilton Kalastajatorppa.

Squirrel island (not a translation) was a great place to learn about the history, and culture of Finland. There were houses on this island from the late 1800's right up until what cottages look like today. I went during the peak of winter and trust me, it was an amazing walk around this island but damn....all of the footpaths were... More

Lots happening so check the schedule so you know the times. At the end of bus 24 and easy to get there and back from Helsinki. Self tour with enough information and good guides located a various places. Good place for a picnic and a all day if you have the time.

Wandering through the lovely lanes (the trees and water - symbols of Helsinki to us - ever present, you come across historical buildings (farm houses, barns, boathouses, manor houses, barns, churches) in a very natural setting. Give yourself a few hours & relax. So interesting, but that's Helsinki & Finland for you

Nice trails and interesting preserved historical structures. Great place to run but no bikes allowed. Bus stop right at entrance provides easy, cheap access.

An island transformed a century ago into a park to serve the labor class to go to have some rest from the work week... Wonderful island park where you can walk, run, or meditate in peace enjoying all its greenery and watching the squirrels.

This island is in the form of an open air museum. It consists of houses and wooden structures which gives you an idea of the finnish culture how it used to be in the past. Finland used to be extremely cold and how people used to plan and cope with the freezing temperatures that is depicted in the island. We... More
