The museum had a 100th anniversary exhibit of the works of Tove Janssen. I waited in line and it was worth it.

One of the best museums in Finland! Fantastic exhibition projects and very well-organised exposition! And of course the cup of coffee next to the bookshop will warm you up in the windy winter Sunday morning.

To mark teh 100th anniversary of the birth of Tove Jansson (1914-2001) Ateneum hosts a major exhibition. There are presented Mrs Jansson´s impressive career as an artist, illustrator, political caricaturist, author and creator of the Moomin characters and stories. I was very impressed by the artist´s innovative and imaginative pictures and very skilled marker drawing technique. I am very dissapointed... More

During my visit the 3rd floor was being renovated and as such , it was not open to the public. However, you are able to visit the Cafe though!. The ground floor holds fine pieces of great masterpreices from France, Italy and Finland. I kept gazing through some them as they were too beautiful not be stared at! A piece... More

An art museum in the middle of Helsinki, opposite the railway station. The collection includes all the major works of the golden era of the Finnish visual arts in the late 1800's.

I mainly went for the Moomin exhibition, but I don't think the museum was worth the money, and I was finished very quickly. You have to keep your bags in your hand (even though everything is roped off). I thought the whole thing was more trouble than what it was worth.

The rotating exhibits are generally worth seeing but the permanent collection is always good. It takes an hour or more to take in as much as possible.

We were in Helsinki on vacation, and this Helsinki art museum was on our itinerary due to the guide book recommendations. I was expecting to like it, but it far exceeded my expectations. The exhibits on Finnish art were quite good. The Tove Jansson centenary exhibition, however, took us totally by surprise. I was vaguely aware of her and her... More

Came here to see the Tove Jansson centenary exhibition, which was fantastic - absolutely unmissable for anyone interested in her work, whether it is the moomins, her paintings, satirical cartoons, novels for adults, etc, etc. The collection of her work here is huge, you should allow a good couple of hours for this exhibition alone. If you are involved in... More

We travelled from the UK to see Helsinki and specifically this exhibition. Most pictures are in private collections and so an unmissable opportunity to see her art, work photos etc etc A truly unique unmissable exhibition. Worthy the effort. Very inspiring too to see her work. What a talent! Unfortunately no money left over to buy souvenirs. Clearly someone us... More
