I saw the Tove Jansson exhibition as well as the permanent famous Finnish exhibition. Both were fantastic. Other reviews were correct in that most of the art is Finnish, but that's a good thing!

We were lucky enough to catch the exhibit celebrating the 100th anniversary of Tove Jansson's birth (1914). We had never heard of this wonderful artist - what a nice surprise! Other exhibits also very good. This was one of the high-lites of or Helsinki visit. G&J, San Antonio, TX

Only two halls were open at the time of our visit and they were great. Good audio guide, fantastic personnel at the reception-tickets area. Free of charge possibly due to the two hall access only...

There's nothing like this museum to give you a delicious taste of Finnish art and architecture -- conveniently located across the street from the main Helsinki train station and with a manageable three floors of artworks. If you are looking for European art, you should probably go elsewhere. But this museum makes no pretensions of housing all the usual Impressionists... More

This museum seems to have deteriorated slightly over the years but in the three times I have visited I always found something to enjoy. I don't think that art works are supposed to shout in your face and sometimes a visitor has to turn down the volume of their expectations and not demand the latest and greatest. It is after... More

I was there last August, and I heartly recommend to avoid this museum. It is simply not worth the money: the collection is not very extensive, the finnish art is objectively very limited in production and no original in style. Much better, spending the money on other local and more typical attractions. Or simply keep the 12 euros in your... More

There is nothing to see there. You could see more Finnish art in Paris (France) than in Ateneum. Go there ONLY if attendance is free of charge. Absolutely no value for the money and time wasted.
