We visited the Ismo Hölttö exhibition which was fantastic, the photographs were fascinating and the exhibition involved some 'audience participation' which was really interesting. The building is beautiful although the day that we visited some of the exhibitions were closed. Lovely gift shop and really friendly and helpful staff.

This is one place you must see in Helsinki along with the Helsinki Cathedral and the Uspenskin Cathedral. Great exhabits, well played out and Van Goth we had not seen - with the time and the entrance price

A good choice for a rainy day. The current exhibit about "The Magic of the North" is wonderfully descriptive of Finnish artwork and culture. Much of the museum is currently under construction which is a bummer.

Not the Met in New York but its well stocked and interesting for such a small city. Its a little heavy on Munch and his contempories but nothing wrong with that or all the scandanavian artists displayed. Certainly worth your time and money.

Ateneum Art Museum is the place to go to if you are visiting Helsinki. There are lot of important paintings from finnish history and you get a sense of how the national identity started to rise from the shadow of russia.

We very much enjoyed the Finnish and Scandinavian collection here, however were disappointed that the renovations meant that it was a limited display. We still had to pay the full entrance fee, which seemed unfair. One aspect that impressed us was the children's activity room, which was creatively outfitted to stimulate kids' imagination.

We had looked forward to seeing the extensive collection of the Ateneum Museum, but found all but some ground-floor rooms were closed to the public. Apparently major renovation means the place will not be fully operational for quite some time. On the plus side, there was no entry fee and we were able to see a few of the highlights... More

We were slightly disappointed on our visit. The third floor was closed for renovation, so there were less galleries to view. What is there is well displayed, but the collection is rather limited. The main attractions are the extensive show of Scandinavian artists, including many works by Munch, and the (very few) paintings by the masters (one Cezanne, one Van... More

This is the art museum to visit when in Helsinki. The permanent collection gives me as a Finn always some thrills because the paintings there are just so great. The museum is part of our history and it is not overly huge in size so good place to visit also for those who are not so thrilled about the art.... More

We visited on Helsinki days so it was free admission as was all museums that day. It's a beautiful building and exhibitions were great. I'd recommend a visit even if you're not a art buff like me, it's just nice to experience.
