We were slightly disappointed on our visit. The third floor was closed for renovation, so there were less galleries to view. What is there is well displayed, but the collection is rather limited. The main attractions are the extensive show of Scandinavian artists, including many works by Munch, and the (very few) paintings by the masters (one Cezanne, one Van... More

This is the art museum to visit when in Helsinki. The permanent collection gives me as a Finn always some thrills because the paintings there are just so great. The museum is part of our history and it is not overly huge in size so good place to visit also for those who are not so thrilled about the art.... More

I was very much looking forward to visiting the Ateneum Art Museum, Helsiki but was rather disappointed as I didn't find it lived up to my expectations. The entrance fee is 13 Euros which was paid to an unfriendly lady at the desk who didn't give me a map of the galleries or even tell me where the tour should... More

Ateneum was one of the highlights of Helsinki and I was really curious to see the whole collection...but currently it's under renovation and what was left were 3 small rooms of paintings and some photography exhibition...ticket costed 13 euro for almost nothing! we were not informed about that when we were buying the ticket...probably because we wouldn't go in... The museum is worth seeing. Well, modern art is not always easy to understand, but somehow it can be intriguing and the exhibitions are quite interesting.

The Ateneum is meant to give us a history and representation of Finnish art. While construction is taking place only 3 small rooms display a minimal selection of their some thousands of paintings. The rest of the building which is still open (the entire 3rd floor closed and some of floor 2) has a photographic display. The photo exhibition by... More

Want to learn about Finnish art? Ateneum is your introduction. 13 euro entry is worth it. Photography exhibit is charming. Cafe is a nice respite.

I really enjoyed the Ismo Hölttö photo exhibition, and naturally also the ever so beautiful classic paintings downstairs.

I was here on the 4th of April 2015. I left within 5 minutes because there were only 3 very small exhibition rooms open. There was some interesting art work there but I expected much more. I knew the 3rd floor was closed but I had no idea the 2nd floor was also closed. It was very disappointing.
