It's up on the hill in all it's splendor! What a beautiful church, inside and out. And you can see the Lutheran Church from the court yard.

You can notice it from the far due to its vibrant redbricks facade & golden cupolas. It can be found on the Katajanokka peninsula. It's a magificient 19th century building & the largest orthdox church in Western Europe. It's free to enter & there's a small stand to buy memoribillia inside of the cathedral. There are many icons there (One... More

You can't help but notice this structure from a distance. I went inside, sat down, and took it all in for a few minutes. It's not incredibly ornate, but it is different. You can light a candle for a little under two Euros.

Very beautiful example of Russian Orthodox church. The location has a great view of the harbor and market square.

This Russian Orthodox cathedral looks out over the harbor from a high perch. It is worth climbing the hill for the view alone. Inside is a lovely sacred space, with interesting icons. A reminder of the period when Russia ruled Finland. One thing that disturbed me during my visit--there is a sign asking visitors to speak quietly and to refrain... More

It was closed for midsummer. The exterior is beautiful and there are a number of buildings with early 20th century architecture in the area behind the cathedral. The docks and maritime buildings are worth a glance.
