Due to the size of the church, it acted as my compass when I was wandering around Helsinki. I could see it from almost anywhere around the city center. I've been to a similar one in Tampere and I thought there was nothing special inside so I didn't come in; however, looking at all the photos taken inside now, I... More

Yes, it is a bit of a hike up to the Cathedral and away from the main sites in Helsinki, but the beauty of both the exterior and interior rewards ones effort. From the Cathedral's hill, one may capture a nice view of Market Square and the harbor below.

You see this church as soon as you hit the Esplanade. It sits in the background of the old city. Compared to the Lutheran churchs it is much more ornamental. It is a bit out of the way from most of the other sights and if you decide to walk it is a bit of hike but it is something... More

we passed by this church every day. stopped at least three times to look, take photos, and just take it all in.. worth a stop if it does not take you out too much of your way.. the colors and the shadows playing on the church.. very nice..

This is a highly-rated sight in Helsinki, so we decided to include it on our itinerary, even though it is a bit out of the way, quite in the opposite direction from most of the things to see and do in this beautiful city. I must confess we were a bit disappointed. It is quite striking to look at and... More

Nice outside but not worth a visit inside. Nice area to visit however, worth walking around. One of the few places to see here!

This church is about a ten minute walk from the docks. It's situated on a hill which makes it look impressive. Not worth the effort going up and looking inside. If you have been in a church before, well....the ceiling is painted blue and there are stars painted on top - that is pretty much what stands out. The rest... More

It is beautifully situated and worth the visit. The views of the city are worth the walk and getting there is easy.

After a quick lunch of a huge bowl of delicious salmon soup and bread (7 Euros) in the Market Square, my husband and I walked across the street and up the hill to visit this Russian Orthodox cathedral. We could see its multiple green domes (13) of varying sizes and old red brick walls from our outdoor "cafe" so we... More

Beautiful Cathedral with photogenic architecture. It is a bit of a climb up to the entrance but well worth the effort. The interior of the church is beautiful and serene. Even though we were there while there were tour buses lined up with many viewers, it was still a quiet, spiritual experience.
