We visited last week, and the Square is huge. For better views it's best to climb to the top of the steps and look down onto the square. It was pretty empty when we visited, mainly due to it being in February and rather cold and windy. I can imagine though, it's a great place to be when the christmas... More

The place is absolutely stunning! It was one of the first views I showed my friend when he visited Finland and he wasn't disappointed! The Cathedral is worth visiting as well :)

It is just an ordinary place, with a monument, a staircase and a big white church that does not have much else inside, besides a chandelier and benches to sit.

Standing in the centre of the square getting a light covering of snow listening to classical music by bells. Worth the evening walk from the hotel. Loved it.

Not really much to see around. The square was empty when we were there. I do understand the historic importance of this place but I think that they still have the statue of a Russian dictator left there? Wouldn't miss much if you were to skip it but then again it's not that Helsinki is full of landmarks..

People say that Senate square isn't quite impressive. Well, it isn't the best square of the world but I really liked that it is simple and clean, and you could feel freedom and calmness. Such a relaxing main square, unusual for capital cities. I felt like I'm at home.

This must be your number one place to visit in Helsinki. Just admire the building and take tons of great pictures around. Walking distance to railway station, walking distance to market square.

We visited the annual Christmas markets - great location, good range of stores showcasing local finnish goods and homewares and free entertainment for the children with a central carousel and Santa Claus making regular appearances. A visit to the church perched atop was also impressive.

Just been there last week and the xmas market is there. Alot of local handicrafts and food to try. Loads of locals and tourists around the area to experience the xmas market.
