I visited Helsinki couple weeks before Christmas. The Christmas market was fully setup in the Square. A lot of vendors filled the Square. All kind of merchandises are available. I saw fish skin wallet, berry jam, leather gloves, dry fish, etc. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Helsinki.

We visited in early December. There were over 100 stalls but it felt very commercial, was overpriced and lacked any Christmas atmosphere - very disappointing.

The Square and Cathedral have been presented in many media pages representing Helsinki, and we're a bit disappointed as nothing more than what have been showed on a paper. The Square was less crowded than we anticipated, and those small shops made the place look more like a small town's plaza. We actually like the Market Square better as it's... More

Senate Square is a place where you can chill out during summer days and enjoy in beautiful surroundings with great architecture buildings of University of Helsinki, famous Helsinki Cathedral and Government Palace. In my opinion Senate Square is the most magnificent during Christmas time. Couple of weeks before Christmas its full of people and you can feel the real Christmas... More

I'm sure this square is great when it's crowded and the weather is sunny, but it just seemed dank and gray when we were there. The church has some lovely architecture, but there are other churches in the area worth a look. To be frank, this square made me kind of depressed. Don't see this first or you might get... More

This is the spot in the city with the best architecture with the Lutheran church above, Alexander the second statue in the square and government seat around the square. Nice photo op.

Nothing to write home about. The square had a church and a staircase. Good for a few pictures and a stop by. Think there are a lot of other things that better represent Helsinki...though in every tourist guide you see, they show the picture of the square with church.

This is very hicrorically important place to all finnish people. Its amazingly beautiful with big church (national catedral) above it and neally seaside wiew. In the middle you can see statue Aleksanteri II reminding uss old old hictoric autonomy times with Russia. Some times a year about 20.000 people gather there to celebrate independency or other important celebrationdays.

I did a short stopover at Finland. This is the first and main target and it took me quite sometime to reach it but managed to. It is majestic and extremely beautiful. Must to visit if you are at Helsinki!

Senate Square provides a nice place to linger for a while but all in all does not offer anything special except a multitude of stairs.
