New Year's Eve celebrations in Senate Square were actually disappointing for us. The fireworks, alt hog good, were too short. The band may have been good, but the acoustics were horrible in the square, and the whole thing ended abruptly. The entire square of people then left in mob fashion funnelling down 2 streets. We stepped aside for this and... More

Many events are taking place almost all year round here. And always loved by young and old to enjoy sunlight when it is sunny day.

Easy to find and very central. when were here in Jan, senate sq felt very cold and barren, quite stark in architecture. Hop on hop off bus ends and starts here but only from May- october.

Interesting place. The square is surrounded by impressive architectural ensemble. Right in front of the Cathedral the monument to the distinguished Finns the Russian Emperor – Alexander II, in which Finland had introduced its own currency – mark, and the Finnish language received the status of a state along with the Swedish

The buildings are very photogenic and seemed to attract a lot of tourists. Not really much to dwell over, but worth a few minutes of your time for a quick photo.

Take a walk, admire the architecture, sit and relax or pass through, you can do whatever you want and experience this place however you want. There are roads leading from it to every part of the city. There are cafes and restaurants and tram stations all around. There is the parliament building and the oldest building of Helsinki and the... More

This is definitely the heart of Helsinki, majestic, beautiful, even having something esoteric in it. You can visit it by day or by night, you will always love it. The square has a couple of coffee shops and restaurants with a view to the Cathedral, if you are for the first time in Helsinki it's worth stopping there for an... More

We went inside the church and crossed the place. Nice to have been there, but not any wow-factor (we probably compared this to buildings in Rome though). But the church is absolutely worth it, it was nice with the special lights in the winter.
