We arrived at the train station early to catch our overnight train to Rovaniemi, unsure as to what time we'd be able to board from. We figured we'd grab some dinner and sit and people watch, however found that there was hardly any seating at all. After sight seeing all day, I had 2 very tired kids. We ended up... More

The Helsinki Railway Station has reminded Len Deighton of an old radio, but actually it is a very nice early piece of national romantic architecture, rather well preserved. The only crime is that the Station restaurant has been converted into a Burger King! Please avoid! This is the travel hub for Helsinki, metro underground, trains above ground, lots of buses... More

Hard to miss as it is smack in the middle of Helsinki city centre. Trains, trams, busses and metro have stops here which makes it a place you will probably at minimum travel past during your stay in Helsinki. The building itself has doors on three sides and is also accessible from below from the Metro system and the underground... More

This is the best way of transport to and from Helsinki. Signs are clearly marked and purchasing tickets is simple. Make sure to note that the Train Station is different from the Metro system. When you initially walk into the railway station you will see the Metro first. Keep following the Train Station signs.

The building of the railway station in Helsinki is the most famous in the world piece of Finnish architecture. It is built in Northern art Nouveau style by the architect Saarinen Alilem.Simple and convenient plan of the building – impossible to get lost there. Liven up this rather dry overall architecture of figures on the sides of the main entrance,... More

Helsinki Central Railway Station is a unique building of architect Eliel Saarinen. So finnish Jugend-architecture and quite unique in Europe. Unfortunately the restaurant is spoilt by hamburger chain restaurant. The original furniture of Saarinen is almost totally changed. Luckily you can still see the original fresco by Eero Järnefelt.

Easy to figure your way around this station plenty of signs. Machines for tickets are hard to work only take cards if you make your way to burger king there are cashiers who can help with cash sales for travelers like our selves with no way of using card payments.

We took the train to get to the airport. This was a wonderful experience - beautiful trains and smooth ride with gorgeous views. Helsinki station was wonderful and right in the middle of downtown.
