Nice recreational island just outside Helsinki. Two beaches, one suitable for families and one clothing optional. Highly recommended, perfect place to enjoy summer. There is a cafe' and you can even spend the night on the island if you bring a tent.

Must visit island in Helsinki during summer time. Killer beach. Just take your own picnic basket and enjoy the cool summer breeze and awesome view.

If you happen to be in Helsinki when the weather is good enough for a day at the beach, take a ferry to Pihlajasaari!

This is one of my favourite places in the world and it's rght in front of my home town :) Obviously most people have been to hotter beaches - there are a couple of sandy ones on this island just a 10-minute water bus ride from Café Carousel. However it's the smooth rocks that rock on Pihlajasaari. Walk towards the... More

I can't even pronounce the name, but had a wonderful time at this island. It's a beach, and recreational park. There are three beaches with sand, and the rest of the island is primarily picturesque rocks with access to the waters. Be careful because it can get slippery from the seaweed on the rocks. It was nice to get some... More

A nice boatride away from the city Pihlajasaari is a wonderful place to spend the day or go for a picnic in the afternoon. There is a beach for swimming and stunning cliffs where you can enjoy the wonderful landscape over the archipelago. If you´re lucky you can see one of the cruise ships on their way to Stockholm from... More

We spent a Monday afternoon in July here with our kids. You take a ferry from behind Cafe Carousel (which seems to have delicious food by the way) to the island. The ferrys leave only every hour. At the time of this review the ferrys left at half past the hour and takes you to the island within 12 minutes.... More

Great escape from the town. Go past the sandy beaches and head to rocks at the far end of the island. The rocks have the best views to the sea.

We went to the Vanhatori market by the harbour and grabbed some Finnish treats, karjalanpiirakka, a salad, some fresh strawberries and peas and with a thermos of coffee headed off to Pihlajasaari for the day. The weather was beautiful, warm and sunny. The walk around to the ferry took about 20 minutes and then a nice ferry ride across to... More
