I visited Helsinki zoo today with my husband and 17 month old son, we all had a fantastic day. It was not to cold today and a little flurry of snow which made it perfect. I think we saw almost all the animals in their enclosures which surprised me due to it being winter as I have been to other... More

It was a cold and rainy day but nevertheless we loved the zoo, especially big cats: we saw snow leopards feeding, tigers, lion cub and a bobcat. Note that bears are sleeping in winter. I think it's much more interesting in summer time, but the winter zoo has that special something.

Being a zookeeper myself, I can be a bit picky when it comes to what I like or dislike about zoos. I often look at them from a functional/welfare point of view so I may give opinions from a different point of view to the paying public. I love the fact that the zoo is situated on its own island.... It hasn't a lot of animals, but it's situation on an island in the gulf and the fact that there are odd European and Asiatic animals is a plus. See wisents, reindeer, mongolian horses, wolverines and active big cats (including snow leopards). If you're the kind of person who moans over zoos while munching on a hamburger, why are you... Liked the place, as it was clean and we actually saw some tigers and lions quite close, we took the walk from Kulosaari.

I visited this Zoo two times. You can take a bus from the main railway station (you can also go there by ferry in summer season) and the bus stops just before the bridge to this amazing island. From there, across the bridge, you can only go by foot. Besides all those interesting animals you can also enjoy the island... More

So you catch a bus from the rail way station (rautatieasema - try pronounce that) and it takes you to the zoo. It was roughly a 15 minute bus trip to get there. When I arrived there I liked to think that it was Jurassic Park as the zoo is on it's own island. I went during the winter time... More

Animals mostly not to been seen so of course this was not as nice visit as summertime would be. But still nice island to walk around. Easily spent 2 -3hours...

I've visited alot of zoos but this One makes you feel nice. I get the feeling that the animals are happy and well kept. and its nice that you get to see the feedings too. It in an island and it has nice nature and views to ocean. Peacocks and other birds walk around the island free. They have great... More

Located on an island, but very close to the city center, this zoo is a very nice place even before you meet the animals. Habitats are large, green and clean, animals look natural and cared for. Cat valley is amazing, especially amur tiger and lion children. Red panda is adorable and children love it. Even big birds like griphons have... More
