The open-air museum is beautiful and I was really happy to see the hard-work and efforts of countless people across last century at preserving the historical architecture of Finland. The architectural displays span multiple centuries and are carefully curated to give the visitor a glimpse into the lives of early Finns. Taking a stroll around the island is completely free.... Nice place, historic attractions, a lot of walking. A bit outside of Helsinki, need to take a longish bus ride.

To see the old Finnish buildings or just to walk around and feed the birds and squirrels. Beautiful old church! Turning left when entering the islands takes you fast to some rocky cliffs and very small beach where to enjoy a small picknic. For the entrance to the museum buildings you need a ticket, but walking is free. Ice cream... More

Make the easy bus ride to this attraction, esp. if you enjoy understanding the history of a country. You can easily see all the buildings and exhibits in 2-3 hours.

The island of the museum is beautiful. It can be visited outside the opening hours, and you can see the buildings even if you don't have a ticket (which is not the case in other similar museums like the one in Stockholm for example). The ticket is only to visit the interiors of some of the buildings. Mostly we liked... More

I went to Seurasaari island one Wednesday evening this summer when the museum houses already had been closed but there happened to be a concert in Karuna church. Remember to take a leaflet of the island from the first house, a cafe: The leaflet is a map and calendar of the dates for different events i.a. Easter, Midsummer, Christmas and... More

We were there for the midsummer celebrations and were glad we made the effort to be part of it all ! The opportunity to wander around the historic site .. enjoy the stilts, the open air theatre, the flags and the dancing ..with the Bonfires to conclude the day. Absolutely Wonderful ! Yes it can be chilly .. it is... More

This is a rather interesting idea for a museum - put one in a park. Helsinki has an island devoted to that purpose. Finnish cities packed up some historical structures and shipped them to the nation's capital, where they were reassembled and placed on a hiking trail. Not only can residents go for a nice walk, but they can learn... More

We attended the 2015 midsummer celebrations at Seurasaari Island and had a lovely time. There seemed to mostly Finns at this event with only a small proportion of tourists. It's a low key family oriented community gathering that gives foreigners an opportunity to see Finnish customs and enjoy the occasion among the friendly and welcoming Helsinki folks. They offer gluten... More
