A short ferry ride takes one to this historic place so open in Summer .. snow covered in Winter. The Museum to me was the highlight .. so detailed and told the story of life in the area going back many years. We enjoyed great service at a nearby cafe and even though we did much walking it was all... More

This well preserved fortress area can be reached after a short ferry trip which in itself is a nice experience. Once you get there its a feast for all senses: The scenery is fabulous with seagulls giving background music, restaurants, cafes and a nice beach too....

We went to this island, the first time as tourists as many Helsinki friends recommended us to do, we were quite new in the country. We made our short ferry trip from the main Market Square to the UNESCO listed inhabited fortress of Suomenlinna on Sveaborg Island. Our experiences were positive and amazing ones. We liked a lot this island... More

We went over with the idea of looking at the jail, military and toy museum. We were there at about 2, all of the guides said they were open but when we got there, it was like a ghost town. It's a great half a day, I'm sure, just maybe check with some locals and don't rely on the guides.

Don't go in winter. Boring and everything's closed. Not the worst experience, but definitely not a must see

Visited on a wet, windy day. Museum closed as was most of islands facilities - cafes etc. Fortunately had read some info on Wikipedia before visit also the brochure provided by the Tourist Office was of assistance. If you are planning a visit make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes because most of the roads/paths are cobble stones. Also the... More

Beautiful views back over Helsinki or out to sea. A good place for a walk on a summer's day, or for a fresh spring with the wind in your face.

You can reach the island with the ferry and it is really amazing how impressing an island can be. Visit old building, go to the beach and walk beside a real prison. The island is worth a visit.

Highly recommend taking the 20 minute ferry ride to explore the beautiful and historic island of Suomenlina. When possible, aim to visit on a clear day, to get the most out of this tranquil place and the wonderful views of Helsinki.

There isn't Much to do in Helsinki so if you are at a loose end this is something which could help you kill a couple of hours. It is cheap to get the ferry over from Helsinki, and once you arrive (about 15 minutes later) then you can explore this very small island with its quirky little buildings, multitude of... More
