This beautiful fortress is in great shape, as Finnsih prisoners are constantly renovating it with help from the Finnish government.

Local ferry in February is 5 euros round trip for a 12 hour ticket. Not much open in winter but views are a definite must see. Takes about 3 hours to walk around. Snow on ground with ice underneath so go prepared. Island is exposed to cold wind. Very interesting half day out.

After seeing the great reviews, I thought that there would be more to see. Nevertheless, it was a nice and quaint island and it was nice to spend some time there. We've joined a walking tour. Warm up though as it can get incredibly windy and cold.

Suomenlinna is a beautiful place to visit during summer, and why not during winter also. Just take the ferry over and walk around on Suomenlinna for a couple of hours, take som sun, enjoy good food and drinks and visit the old fortress for som interesting history.

I would love to visit this fortress in warmer months. Our tour was rushed due to the cold weather as we all huddled to keep warm and hear the tour guide. There wasn't one thing that stood out on this tour, but that could be because I prefer tour guides who tell stories to bring the history to life -... More

The fortress is a quick ferry ride from the market square. It's a beautiful ferry ride over and the fortress island has incredible architecture, history and geography. I could have hung out on the island all day.

It was a cpl. of hours visit but we think we had seen nearly every part of the fortress.First of all the the trip by ferry to the island on a sea full of ice was a nice experience.Altough it looks like all the other fortresses maybe everywhere to be full of snow makes it a bit special. But if... More
