It took us 15 minutes with the ferry to go from Esplanaden in Helsinki to Suomenlinna (Sveaborg). Ferry ticket was 7 € (2013). You don't need to pay anything to just walk around on Suomenlinna, only if you want to visit the museums. We enjoyed our visit there. If you don't go to the museums or want to eat at... More

Children would love to go into the tunnels an dungeons of fortress and everything is almost for free. The boat to the island will cost you about 2.5€ on way.... Take your camera with you! The gigantic cruisers will pass by the southern tip of the island with only afew meters of margin... kids and adults can climb the fortress... More

Two things you must have in mind if you intend to visit Suomenlinna park-museum. First that the only way to arrive their is by ferry with 5 Euro ticket, and second be sure that you have enough time and being able to walk,as is a very big park. It is better to know a few about history as it was... More

The ferry trip to the fort was great, but once there it certainly has a small town feel. The museum was very interesting, but some of the paths seem like they could be paved better.

Great experience visiting here by boat across the frozen sea inlet. Not much open in March but still a very interesting excursion.

Nice to visit, but nothing so special. If you know history, it is more interesting. Good picnic area.

The ferry and the walking are very nice around the island. Very enjoyable. We did not try the coffee shop, but it looked OK. There's also a supermarket.

Tramped around here for hours. Loved it. Despite the sunshine there was a chilly breeze blowing in from the gulf. Must be bitter in winter. Lots to see and do. Many tiny coves and sorta beaches to discover. Also a popular place for the locals to fish. Don't know if permits are required. Added bonus is the boat ride there... More

If you enjoy walking in interesting places, go here. It offers old buildings, sea walls, fortifications, and quite a few kilometers of trails and roads. We enjoyed watching them build a full size replica wooden boat, and of course the museum is interesting. The ferry from Helsinki's harbor runs often enough to give flexibility to the length of stay.
