The best part of the trip is cracking through the frozen sea to get there. Unfortunately once you get there, not too much is open in Jan. On the plus side there aren't any crowds.

We visited the place during winter, so the cold, chilly winds from the sea marked the "cold atmosphere" of our visit. The spectacles on the islands are interesting, also the view from the shores are simply wonderful. Unluckily, many museums were closed (this was a letdown - maybe this was due to winter time?) but the walk around was totally... More

We visited Suomenlinna early February 2015, whilst Helsinki Tourism were in the middle of their "Winter Fun" campaign, so we were surprised by how quiet it was. A fair few people were on the ferry journeys, but there was nothing really going on on the island. It seemed the staff on the island weren't putting as much effort into Winter... More

Taste of history, very beautiful island, good restaurants, nice place to get tan, swimming places, very cheap transportation ship from Kauppatori.

Already the ride with the ferry was nice. you cross some small islands with nice and typical houses on it. suomenlinna itself was amazing. nice roads and track to stroll around and amazing view over the sea. when I was there the sky showed beautiful colours and a nice sunset. There are also some cute little café. I got also... More

Nice place to visit, pretty church, and other buildings, fun place for a picnic. Local people favor it.

Nice place to visit in the summer. Overpriced restaurants with food that's okay, not more.... and maybe too many teenagers roamig around with beercans in their hands....

Complete rip-off, almost everything is closed during winter. Very bad website. Nothing been done by the staff to compensate.

Fortress is a great way to spend a day. You should go there early to beat the crowds. Even better, you could book ahead and stay in Hostel Suomenlinna for the night. You will then be there all by yourself. Recommended especially for photography.
