Great destination on a sunny day. Take a picnic. Kids will find it interesting too! Only a short and cheap boat ride away!

So we enjoyed a stroll over the island wandering in and out of different bits. On a warm summer's evening with a light breese it was lovely. The cobbles though are viscious so this is really sensible shoes time

Short ferry ride from the city center, lots to explore and plenty of cafes, museums and photo opportunities to fill at least half a day. Well worth a visit! Tip - there is a small grocery store right at the ferry stop where you can get snacks/drinks/etc on arrival

We have seen this both in winter and summer now. In winter a great deal is closed obviously but it is still very impressive. Enjoyed seeing it in summer and it is a very significant place to visit historically.

Easy and cheap access by ferry, historical things to see when you're there. Not a place for action, but a place for some museum, nature and nice picnic. No admittance fee, but the ferry to get there costs from 2 to 7 euros, depending which ferry you use. The public transportation ferries are the cheapest.

I spent the good part of a day here which is a very popular place for locals and tourists alike. Its a short ferry trip from Helsinki to the island and conveniently there is a cafe as you arrive for that obligatory coffee. Many people take picnics to the island and its a great spot to look out over the... More

Easy to get there on a short boat ride. We enjoyed walking around the fortress, it was busy but we were able to get away from the crowds when we walked to more remote parts of the fortress. On the sunny day we were there, there were groups with picnics who were quite noisy but it was easy to get... More

Suomenlinna is a UNESCO site and the most beautiful place in Helsinki. The public ferry is part of the Helsinki public transportation network, so there's no need to pay for one of the expensive private ferries to get there. You can take a picnic lunch or go to the art studio cafe for a meal. We didn't go into any... More

The trip from Helsinki is short but fun, allowing you to see several of the small islands in the bay. The fort itself is very large and spread out. Plan on walking for several hours to see everything. Suomenlinna is also home for several hundred residents, so private homes are interspersed with period sites. The lack of well maintained and...
