Only a 15-minute ferry ride from Helsinki harbor and a half-day (or a full-day) well spent exploring the fortress and the island and learning a bit of Finnish history. There are small cafes to grab a bite or to quench your thirst, but one may also bring a picnic. Wear comfortable shoes and prepare to walk about 1.5 km from... More

I enjoyed the ferry trip to Suomenlinna. The walk around the island is easy and there are numerous places to eat and drink along the way. There are a number of museums, guns and a church, and the history is very interesting

You take the ferry from Helsinki (if you have a public transport pass, this should be included) and take the 10 minute boat ride to Suomenlinna. The islands (actually it is 4 or 5 islands connected) are very interesting with a lot of different things to see and nice cafés along the way. Perfect trip for good weather.

We took the tour and learned a great deal about the fortress and Finnish history as well. There are several cafes, a micro-brewery, and very nice places to picnic. Short ferry ride from the Helsinki Harbor.

We visited this island on a lovely warm sunny day. There were many locals visiting and some wedding groups too. It was a happy, pleasant location with beautiful scenery. I would encourage everyone to visit it, it's worth a good two hours wandering, depending on how quickly you walk.

Great 15 minute Ferry ride get away from Helsinki. Lots of history to be had here. You can walk the island in less than an hour. A few places to stop for coffee. Minimal tourists the last week of Sept. Can get nice harbor pics. Half a day is plenty of time to see everything.

make sure you have some coins to buy a ticket at the ferry - then enjoy the day. A very interesting site, with a number of good places to eat. The Borsch at the Piper cafe is excellent. Lovely little beach; I was sorry I did not have my togs/towel.

Interesting journey back into some of Helsinki's past. We enjoy being on the water and the short journey to the fortress is very pleasant. Remember, even in the summer, to have a scarf and a jacket with you - it can be quite chilly!

I visited this place twice during the winter of 2013/2014. I thought that the pricing to get there was really cheap as it is the same price to catch a bus within the CBD. To get to the island you catch an old ferry that can break through the ice :) On the island there are two prisons, a Navy... More

We were on a cruise & docked at a RORO port. This meant taking the shuttle done by the ship, the public bus or a taxi. As there were 4 of us we chose a taxi at E20 into town & E15 on return. We were dropped at the waterfront market & found the public ferry (Sunday 24th August) which... More
