Visited the market in Feb on a weekday. We went to a lovely soup place on the ground floor for lunch. They serveonly only 3 different soups. We had the seafood soup, it was delicious! Lots of salmon, mussels, and shrimps! It was a very big bowl too, lovely on a cold winter day. The market also has lots of... More

We went because it is frequented by locals, not tourists. It had a non pretentious Makkemoto concession (Finland's most recognizable and famous desgn house). A fraftion of the cost vs. the Flagship store on the Esplanad. The best surprise was a Soup kitchen that opens every day at 11:30am with three daily soups. When the three pots are finished, they... This cobbled area good for buying fresh fruit and vegetables in the day. Take a coffee from a paper cup if it is warm enough. You are by sea there, though it is not exactly scenic. The market hall has a café that used to be frequented by the former President Tarja Halonen and there is a house on the... More

Helsinki Finland Hakaniemi Market Square is a really cool place to try some of the traditional Finnish foods, treats, handcrafts and souvenirs. There are a lot of clothing booths and many places that sell sausages and fried fish. It is a nice market, no doubt, but I do not understand why it is ranked number two for shopping.

I bought some lovely handmade pieces in the market. Don't miss the Spectrolite, which is only found in Finland! Some stalls had goods and some had food. The weather was perfect!

Lovely little market that's really easy to get to. Lots of flower, veggie and berry stalls, so come on a sunny day to have a look, even if you don't need to buy anything.

Various and colorful, with these two words we could describe the Market Square of Helsinki. If you are coming from the port because you took the ferry, it will be very easy for you to encounter this square: it is placed between you and the city center. A lot of food, mainly seafood, that can be eaten here. Most of... More

Visited the Hakaniemi Market Hall while in Helsinki. Upstairs was just overpriced souvenirs. Lower level has many very interesting food stalls where locals buy food. I was interested in trying Gravlax salmon, a Nordic specialty. I followed the crowd of locals in the fish section to Töölön Kala (I think I got the name right!) tucked away in the corner.... More

Yes, this is a complete tourist trap, but it is an enjoyable one. You can get a relatively good and inexpensive meal here (compared to sit down restaurants). I suggest the smoked reindeer meatballs. You can also find any souvenir here you can imagine related to Finland. While some are very overprices, some are quite unique and worth looking around... More
