We ate reindeer meatballs and salmon paella and they were delicious! It was fun mingling with the locals and looking at the handmade goods - we ended up buying a wine stopper and a magnet! It was cold when we were there but I'll bet in warm weather this place is just buzzing!

Hmm. I usually run forbi this market square in about 7.30 am in the mornings when its near empty. In the later mornings and especially summertime its lively place, but other times i dont recommendate it. Surraunding this square are main labouring buildings of finnish society.

Do not go there .... on the wrong side of the bridge. So I was taught. Politically, the white´s and red`s. It's history. Nowadays Hakaniemen tori a versatile square with many different market vendors. Do not forget to visit Hakaniemen hall. It is incredibly versatile.

We were staying nearby so decided to pay a visit. Quite a quaint market,a few restaurants to choose for lunch.Upstairs are small shops selling souvenirs. A good way to understand local life.

Market days are on Sundays, and you should go here if you fancy fresh produce from the farmers near to Helsinki. There is a lot of meat, salmon, cheese, honey and berries - and sausages on the BBQ. The atmosphere is almost like a French market.

We had expected to find more food here, but it turned out to be more of a place where elderly locals would go grocery shopping. The upper floor houses a collection of random bric-a-brac, along with a Marimekko textile outlet. Unless you're intending to buy some local produce (literally fruits and vegetables) to cook in your hotel/serviced apartments, you'd be... More

We were visiting from the Eurodam of Holland American and would spend the day. We really wanted to see the Lutheran Cathedral but it was Sunday and there were services at that time. Our bus parked just below the Cathedral and the Market is only a short walk down the hill to the water. The locals were purchasing their breakfast... More

I don't know if it was that we went out of season (start of the Spring), buy we didn't see much options on this market. I didn't see any souvenirs there (just to have an idea). But the architecture is beautiful, considering that the building is from the end of 19th century.

The market hall - located to the side of the eponymous square - is definitely worth a visit for all the local fare (both edible and not) on sale. This is also a transport hub, and only a short distance from the centre ( a scenic walk).
