Every morning they set up shop and every afternoon take it down. As we left at 4:30 am for the airport, many vendors had already started construction. It is amazing what they do every day. The college girls running the shops were delightful. The food was excellent. The gifts were the best place to shop in Helsinki. Overall, I wish... More

Here in this market place where you can find the best fresh food in Helsinki to a lower price than in the downtown. It is little aside from the main center but worth a visit. Easy to access with a tram for example. A lot of small shops with all kind of stuff in 2 floors. You have also a... More

A rather small place with a line of tents with a variety items ranging from local craft, souvenirs to food. One has to pass through it if one arrives by cruise ferry. A lot depends on the weather. Though we were there in June, it was quite windy, chilly and rainy. The tents billowed out quite making things difficult both for... More

Also called Market Square, Kauppatori. Following on from Olearius's excellent description, we found that we could get the food as takeaway (cardboard plate wrapped in aluminium foil so that we could buy the meals just before 4pm, when the majority of stores close, and it was still perfectly edible at 6pm back at our apartment. The food is healthy, if... More

First, let me say that this listing is a mess. There are several market areas in Helsinki, and this listing seems to lump them together. The photos which are shown are several areas, not one. Someone with a better knowledge of Helsinki than mine should try to separate them. This review is for the open air market which is located... More

The square was empty - there were mayby 5 stalls with "old rubbish". Also the market hall was close to empth - half of the stalls closed, and there were very few visitors. Prices very, very high - and from what we just saw the quality did not support such prices! Unfortunately not a good day for a visit to... More

We came to Helsinki on a cruise ship and just planned to spend the day in the city to explore! However, the city itself is very plain and expensive and the weather is always moody! We had planned to eat lunch at the market square but then found the crepes which ran us 2 euros in other cities to be... More

Ate local reindeer, little fried fish, local raspberries, calamari with a sweeter breading than usual; along with a couple beers and great people watching. This place is also the best place to pick up your souvenirs. Great selection of items to take home. I brought home some locally made berry jam. I would hang out here a lot if I... More

This not only pertains to the square but the market building (kaupahalli)in Finnish is a big thing in the life of Finns. I had coffee and a gris (doughnut shaped like a pig). I hear even the former Finnish president Tarja Halonen has a table she usually sits at.
