The home of Alvar Aalto was a great place to visit. I had a brazilian architect with me and we visited both the Aalto House and the ateljee one after the other. This is highly recommendable also to others, find out the timetable for both and do them in the right order. Both museums responded well to e-mails, but did... More

A short guided and informative tour provides an introduction to this leading Finnish architect and founder of Artek design. The house was built in 1936 but was far ahead of its time. His innovative and functional approach can be explored in the furnishings and fittings of his home and in its interior and exterior design. You can then appreciate the... More

OK so I went along with my architect husband, mainly for his sake. But the house is so interesting. Loved the relationship to the garden. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. If you want a window into the Finnish soul, this house, its setting and its contents will inform you. Also visit his studio.

First of all, I recommend you to take a look on thw website cause there's not too many hours available to visit the museo. Only at 1pm 2pm and 3pm. The price is around 17€. The guide of the house made our visit funny and interesting, we learned a lot and she explained us a lot of things and details.

During our 2-week trip to Finland, my husband and I enjoyed learning much more about legendary Finnish modernist architect Alvar Aalto, including a visit and tour of his own home and one-time studio in a Helsinki neighborhood. The tour guide was very pleasant and well-informed. We were also inspired to visit other Aalto-designed residences: Villa Mairea in Noormarkku and Villa... More

Well worth the visit if you are in indeed, in any way, interested in architectural history. The Aalto house provides an interesting, enjoyable and informative education into iconic Finnish design. That said, I would like to provide you with the most expedient way of getting to this house. From Helsinki centre, tram number 4, direction Munkkiniemi. Get off at stop... More

You could never imagine that this house was built in 1936. I could move in today and feel like it was a brand new house. The materials are timeless, as is the design and atmosphere. It is worth a detour to Munkkiniemi and is easily accessible by number 4 tram. Locals will gladly show you the way once you get... More

An inspiring, well maintained and simply beautiful place to understand and feel what one of the masters of Scandinavian design did and where he actually lived. Amazing.

You can feel what kind of person Alvar Aalto was. His home is so esthetic and dignified, yet so modest. Beauty and high quality, no showing off or junk. You automatically start whispering, not to disturb the strong atmosphere!
