Well, I was there in winter, in the last days of December with my eight year old daughter. . The zoo must be more interesting in other seasons like summer or spring. Only good to be with children.

We went to this zoo, which is almost on the Arctic Circle, as part of a "safari" run by Ranua Wildlife Safaris - collected from our hotel by a pleasant English- speaking young Finn, who incidentally had worked at the zoo in many capacities in his formative years, provided with sturdy waterproof clothes and umbrellas, and escorted round this great... -Long boardwalk leading through the entire zoo in the forest, wilderness -Especially nice (but extremely cold) on snowy days -Not too long, not too short walk, suitable for children as well -Zoo keeps polar and brown bears, wolves, lynx, arctic foxes, reindeer, moose, otters, owls and many more. -Very nice realistic stuffed animals in the gift shop

We spent 2 hours walking throughout all sections. Zoo was well-kept and it made us felt like walking in snowy forest in harmony with the animals (as though they were not fenced up). Our tour guide warned us of possible disappointment as the animals will mainly be hibernating since it was winter. But we were lucky, we saw all the... More

We spent a day in Ranua Wildlife park and the whole family loved it. Animals are well taken care of and our guide was excellent at explaining and answering all our questions about the local fauna.

The entire zoo takes about 2 hours to walk around. We went during winter and were initially terribly disappointed by non-existent animals, because it's winter, and the animals were in hibernation or disappeared. Or something. We were not warned about this. I thought it's an arctic zoo! The cold animals are supposed to be out! No? All was fixed when... More

I like visiting zoos, but unfortunately many of them keep animals in tiny concrete enclosures. One gets to see the animals up close, but they are often be stressed out, nervous wrecks. Ranua is a great example of the opposite: the enclosures are huge and mostly in natural forest. Polar bears are surrounded by tall concrete walls, but the space... More

It was the first Zoo where our child didn't start ask to finish our visit before we had seen all animals. Probably, the reason is the Zoo located in a forest, doesn't have a strict ways and daughter took this like a walk/play and meeting with animals at the same time. Animals have a lot of space and don't look... More

Booked Ranua zoo tour with Santa Claus holiday village where we are currently staying in. We take about an hour plus ride to get to Ranua zoo which is quite a unique zoo as it preserves the forest nature for the animals and the animals live in good environment close to nature and not in pure cages like other zoos....
