This site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and worth seeing. We had a great hike around the site and then climbed the 100 steps to the top of the observation tower. What a treat! It's a great view of the ice age action. We also had a bonus moment of seeing some of the birds and the large eagle.

Local people are glad to show you the morene island and their wildlife. White tail eagle and other birds a easy to spot from a small boat or the birdwatch tower.

Wow - this place is amazing! We stayed in Bjorkoby, one of the islands on the archipelago. Its such a beautiful place (and a UNESCO site) - the landscape and wildlife are wonderful. Its so peaceful, yet well visited by many during the summer months - there are many wonderful walking trails to follow - and the hospitality of the... More

Really nice surprise to find this here in Finland! Pretty seaside are with very variable nature, specialty is of course the rising land - it's well to be seen from tower at Svedjehamn, but also from boat tours made to nearby islands. Use some days here, enjoy some pretty B&B places and nice restaurants at small fisherman harbours - there... More

It is possible to drive to the Kvvarken archipelago from Vassa. We went there after we had been to the Terranova the day before. So, we were able to understand the tiny islets & rocks protruding out of the water in the Kvarken archipelago. They are there because the land in this area is still riding up out of the... More

For sure, the Kvarken archipelago is a unique place and really deserves its World Heritage distinction. Not just for geology buffs, but also for the insight it gives into the very tangible effect that climatic change can have on our environment, and - of course - the beautiful landscapes it provides. Access is now easy thanks to the new bridge.... More

I've done several guided cruises to the Valsörarna Islands along the slalom route through the rocky de Geer moraines in Svedjehamn - it´s always exciting if we'll make it this time - we haven't hit a rock yet, but one day it may happen. At Valsörarna you can climb the lighthouse, which was planned by the same engineering bureau that... More
