Sjömanstornet (The Seaman's Tower) at the Maritime Museum (sjofartsmuseum), next to Stigbergstorget was built in memory of deceased marines of the First World War. Their names and the ships they served on are inscribed at the foot of the tower, which was inaugurated in 1933. Visitors have to walk up 139 steps to the top of the tower where the five-metre statue Kvinna vid havet ("Woman by the Sea) stands.

After 194 steps I reached the viewing platform. From the round platform you will have a 360 degree view over Majorna and other residential areas, Göta älv, Älvsborgsbron and also over the city. The tower was erected to commemorate the Swedish sailors that died onboard Swedish ships during WWI.

We had a banquet dinner here, for about 60 people, and the service and food were impeccable. For a starter we had shrimp with caviar that was simply outstanding. One of the best places to view Goteborg from with a nice historical backdrop. You can even get married here.
