We loved the museum and the short hike to the rock art panels. Each panel offered some interpretation, as much as it is possible to interpret this part of our human history. The trails were well maintained and marked. This is a fantastic educational and fun destination for all age groups. I highly recommend a visit or several - you... More

There is a nice visitor center / museum where you can start your journey back to 3000 BC. The museum itself is not really interesting but children can have fun there. The rock carvings are for all people who are a bit interested in history / archeology / cavemen :) And it's completely free! One good advice: since the carvings are... More

This is a fantastic area outdoors where you can walk through impressive history. Lots of carvings from the stone age area. Kids loved it, and so did we. This is especially a good trip if the weather is fine. Nice museums buildings as well.

To doodle has never seen so easy - but given the thought that thees drawings are made in stone and made ages ago makes the thought wander. Set in beautiful surroundings at the north of the swedish west coast this is a perfect stop before heading to the beach. A great little museum with a small but excellent cafe and... More

First and above of all the carvings on the other side of the main road are spectacular. But also the surroundings' landscape and Vitlycke museum close to the parking area are very much worth a visit. Several kilometers away from the site, you are able to find very nice spots and even carvings in the surroundings, especially when using geocaching.... More

We visited this site knowing the rocks had been painted. It is a little off putting to see them outlined this way, especially in red. But I didn't find it to be awful. it did help greatly with the definition of the images. The walk from site to site is relaxing following the trails through the woods. One of the... More

We have visited many world heritage sites with ancient art or constructions but were disappointed with this site. In the visitor center, they talk about the controversy involving the modern coloring of the carvings and we agreed whole-heartedly with the critics. We found some of the descriptive panels to be little more than nice stories. We went to one of... More

This is a World Heritage site, and it's easy to see why - these Bronze Age rock carvings are wonderful. Helpfully, many of the carvings have been painted in red, which makes them much easier to see and photograph. But it's really exciting to spot one that hasn't been painted. The carvings are very distinctive, with repeated themes of ships... More

The rock carvings in Tanum were absolutely awesome! It was a wonderful experience to walk on the trails through the Swedish nature and discover the carvings on the rocks. The Vitlycke museum was also brilliant, and so is the shop. We definitely recommend the little Camping place near Vitlycke museum. The owner was very nice and he lights hundreds of... More
