The old Södermalm is wonderful with all the small old houses of the working class. Amazing that they have survived! Small beautiful gardens and yards.

Be sure to stop by the Mariatorget and have a drink and a bite to eat at Benny Anderson's Rival Cafe...about as close as you might get to ABBA in Stockholm!

it is a nice neighborhood to go for a stroll, mind the hills though, try and push a baby's pushchair up those hills. it's quite an effort. but worth it. it is not a tourist area so it is full of locals and even there, you will find that everybody speaks english without a problem. With a nice square Medborgarplatsen... More

Great Neighborhood In Stockholm. It gives you a decent sense of regular Stockholm life outside of the tourist areas. Could get crowded but not too bad. Plenty of places to eat, drink, and to hang out.

With more than two weeks in Stockholm we had to visit Sodermalm. We did it by tour bus. A double decker. We say about as much as I figured I would want to see. Was a little dirtier than the other parts we visited but appeared to have some good "ficka pause" areas. If you do stay here I'm sure... More

It might not have the reputation of the Old Town but there are some really nice views and trails up the side of the hill. It's also a nice place to walk around and see where people actually live. It can get very steep with old stone roads.

Cool area. Worth taking side streets. Great views from the walkway above the water facing the Old Town. Those side streets contain local cafes with better prices than the old town clearly frequented by locals.

Just make sure you leave the big Gogata street, would advise you to turn left at some point. Lots of lovely cafes and restourants around Mariatorget square

This is where we stayed, and I found it very charming. It didn't look as clean as other parts of the city, but that didn't bother us at all. It acutally gave the city a more 'normal city' vibe to it. Lots of restaurants, bars and cafes, walking distance to Gamla Stan (the Old town), and offering a stunning view... More
