The Theil Gallery is a major private art collection in Stockholm. The art displayed stems from a quite narrow time interval, I would rank about a quarter of the collection as high international class (in particular some Carl Larsson and August Strindberg works) whereas much of the rest has not stood the test of time. However, even more beautiful than... More

We took the number 69 bus....the bustle of the city faded and the scenery quickly changed...a green quiet space on the water, the Theil Gallery. A chance to really see incredible masterful art in a space that allows you to absorb real beauty without the throb of a crowd. Encompassed is also the family connection you get with this venue.... An amazing place. A 19th century villa turned into a fantastic art gallery presenting all the important Scandinavian painters. Take bus 69 from the city. Or, if you are already at Djurgarden, enjoy a very nice walk.

I thoroughly recommend visiting the Thiel Gallery set beautifully in a park on Djurgarden. I enjoyed so much walking through the rooms housing a unique collection of paintings by Scandinavian artists. Also, the history of the owner of the residence, Ernst Thiel and his family is very interesting.

We accidentally discovered the existence of this entrancing museum through a flyer at the tourist office. Though English was not well supported--I had to plead for English translations of the Swedish captions-- the high quality of the artwork made up for it. A really enjoyable, individual place with an incredible backstory. Well worth a visit for any art lover.

Ulf Linde was one of the most powerful personalities within design and art and to leave Stockholm without celebrating his work, his love for the arts is necessary. The gallery is located in a lovely garden with beautiful sculptures. When you have enjoyed the art there is a restaurant where you can relax and enjoy the art in the building... More

The Thiel Gallery is located in the formidable, huge and fantastically decorated villa of a banker, Mr. Thiel. It's a stunning collection of Nordic art, fantastic pictures, take your time (on the first floor you can get 'golf chairs' allowing you to sit wherever you want to. Some of the pictures, the furniture, indeed the whole setting is simply breathtaking.... More

I have been to this gallery at least three times in the last few years. Since I first discovered it almost by chance in 2009, I have brought there every friend that has come to visit me in Sweden. The building and its location are already worth seeing alone, and the exhibition is great. I was astonished to find wonderful... More

Artist Munch and Larson and others interspersed with older scandinavian artists and large modern art photography is viewed in the elegant home of the banker collector Thiel. You take the bus to the last stop in the Djurgarden. Buy a daily bus ticket in the subway station and avoid the single ride tickets which are comparatively expensive. They have a... More

This place used to be a must see if you wanted to view Nordic Art from the beginning of 1900. Now it depends on the exhibition on show.
