This is the original fortified capital of the Island and now just a ruin, but interesting if you like that sort of thing. There is a small village just outside the castle walls with a nice taverna and also a good coffee shop. This is a worthwhile trip for adults, but young children would probably get a bit bored. You... The view from Saint George Castle is stunning! You can even decide to visit the ruins or just chill out in one of the many cafés. Make sure you to go in the morning if you are planing to visit the Castle as it is open only until 3 pm. If you are based in Argostoli it is just a... More

St George's castle is a wonderful place with fantastic views across the island. Visit every year when we go. Free to get in, closed on Monday's. Pick up an information sheet in the gift shop on the way up, it explains what each area of the castle was, and it is free. Sensible shoes a must and keep young children... More

The Castle is easily accessible and although parking is in the village this is not a problem as the walk to the Castle is easy going and, when inside, it's a relatively easy stroll to the top, where the views are excellent. The coffee shop is great for a cooling drink and bite to eat (open 9.30 - 6.30 or... More

Probably the best cafe/restaurant on the island ( we have been 3 times to cephalonia) and not found anywhere nicer. Spiros is such a nice Greek fellow and his English wife makes lovely cheesecakes you won't be disappointed! More

Castle Cafe - On our first day up to St George's after driving around the island we got caught in post thunderstorm rain and it reached the point we did not know if we had found the place which kept getting recommended to us but we just wanted a seat and a coffee. As luck would have it as soon... More

We visited St Georges castle on our holiday in May, the views around are stunning and although there is not a great deal of the castle remaining, the whole place was awash with wild flowers and herbs. After wandering round the castle - which is free to enter - we went to the little cafe just outside the castle gates... More

This castle is a ruin and there's not a lot of information but it's free to look around and is well worth visiting for the stunning views and photo opportunities ! There's no parking at the castle itself, you have to park in the village and walk up, and make sure you visit the Castle Restaurant too as the food... More
