Here you get an insight into the history of Denmark, from regional power to the small peaceful country it is today. Fredriksborg Castle was once built to highlight power and is by far the most impressive building of its time in Scandinavia. In a myriad of rooms your will find Denmark’s Museum of National History – furniture and most of... More

A must see when visiting Denmark. Probably the most amazing palace in the area. The palace, the setting, the gardens, the lake, the little town of Hilleroed all make this place really amazing. Great way to spend the day when visiting Copenhagen.

No matter what angle you approach from there are impressive views. It is clear that this was a castle built to impress and after all these centuries it still does. Room after room of paintings of Danish history, royalty, and nobility. The most impressive aspect are the magnificent carved coffered ceilings. Be sure to look up in every room, you... More

This castle is gorgeous. So despite some of it being a 19th century re-creation (following a fire), the place looks great--nice enough to merit a visit if you are in Denmark. In many ways, it reminds me of the Louvre--a nice castle that is filled with great art. It's a bit more castle-like than the Louvre and the art isn't... More

A beautiful, peaceful place to visit. The castle is fascinating and the gardens are lovely to wander around. We enjoyed the informative presentations given by the local guides and then wandered around on our own to see all the artifacts at leisure. Easy to access by train and bus. Check the bus number on the castle's website or ask the... More

We caught the train from the city to hillerod. When we arrived at the station there were no signs to the castle so we just had to guess! This seems typical in Denmark with minimal signage. After a 15 minute walk following all the coaches we arrived at the castle. It was beautiful!! Amazingly the cost of the castle was... More

The castle is set in a beautiful location with a lake, moat and wonderful gardens. The building itself was very beautiful and absolutely huge. The only downside was that lots of the rooms contained family portraits which became slightly tedious. The furniture and exhibits were interesting though.

Our danish friends picked this attraction for us to visit. We were so glad that we did not miss out on visiting this beautiful museum/ castle. We were overwhelmed by the quality and quality of oil painting collections on display. It could had taken us the whole day or two for us to appreciate all the artworks on display. We... More

Highly recommended for those who would like to learn Danish royal history. I borrowed an audio guide and followed it one by one up until WW1. It is 40 minutes train ride from central Copenhagen, and you can combine it with a visit to Kronborg Castle as a day trip. If you have Copenhagen card and you have time, you... More

We spent around 2 hours in the castle. Arriving shortly after opening on a weekday, we found the crowds very manageable and the self guided route easy to follow. Overall felt it was an outstanding presentation of both the castle and insights into Danish history. There are information cards in each room but often only 1 or 2 which is... More
