Take a break at the Gefion fountain while taking in the views of surrounding esplanade and church. Great place to sit on a warm day to catch mist from the fountain.

So, you are sitting here at your computer deciding "Should I go to this fountain? Is it cool??" Here is the answer: No, it is not cool. Imagine any large-ish fountain you have seen. This is like that one. Bam, done. saved you the time. However, it IS really fun to ride bikes up and down this part of the... More

The Gefion Fountain is a very beautiful fountain and the sculptures convey strength. The Danish artist Anders Bundgaard was the person who designed this fountain, and the fountain was completed in 1908.

You'll notice that Danes love strolling and riding bikes. As a result, they seem to have placed fountains and statues seemingly around every corner. While few of the pieces are breathtaking or otherwise significant, it collectively makes for more scenic walks. The Gefion fountain is part of a very attractive walk along the waterfront stretching between the Citadel (Kastellet) and... More

The fountain looks a little to kitsch. Lots of people talking photos but I had a hard time locating a spot that shows the sculpture and not the 2 other levels of water jets and lots of cables for lights. If you are going past, take a photo and move on.

I think this is one of the most beautiful areas in Copenhagen. Right next to the citadel and the Anglican church. The fountain itself hold a history from the Danish mythology and you can continue your walk to the Little Mermaid.

This beautiful fountain is just over 100 years old. It features the goddess Gefion with her 4 oxen. Some folk legend connects this scene to the mythical creation of Denmark. Either way, it's a lovely fountain by the waterfront and Kastellet.

If you head up to the Little Mermaid you can include this on the walk. It is quite an impressive fountain located next to the church. Worth a viewing!

The Gefion fountain is located near the Little Mermaid and the Kastellet. It pays tribute to a goddess or heroine, to whom the King of Sweden promised as much land as she could plow in a single day. The turned her four sons (despite being a virgin!) into bulls, and did it. Denmark enter the story because the dirt they... More
