We did not have long to spend here and whilst it has many interesting artefacts of Danish history it seems a labyrinth of rooms with little signage . If you visit you need plenty of time to enjoy it

All the exhibits at this museum go very in-depth, describing and detailing archeological discoveries and techniques, history of Denmark from all of its regions, from hunter-gatherer times to the Romans, Vikings, Enlightenment, Christian, and modern eras. They're all laid out well and translated well into English. Plus, it's completely free and located in the middle of downtown Copenhagen, which is... More

The biggest takeaway I got from this was, as my travel partner at the time commented, “So… Danish History was about the same as everyone else’s history. They were an agrarian society, then the industrial revolution happened, then they had labor unions, then World War I happened, then WWII”. While there was some chronology, it just felt like a bunch... More

This is one of the most extensive museums I've visited- there's so much to see! There's a range of exhibitions, so you should always be able to find something of interest to you. My favourite was the Stories of Denmark exhibition, tracing Danish history from 1660 to 2000. Don't expect to be able to see everything in one go- the... More

The early ages and danish history exhibitions are great. There is so much information on the different ages in Europe, the rise of the "Vikings" and Danish history after the middle ages. The "oriental" galleries leave something to be desired with overly typical displays and somewhat outdated information.

We can compare to the British Museum because, even if it is not so big, there is a lot of things to see. I really like the Eskimo part

Loads of stuff to see, so be prepared to walk around. I would recommend spending at least 1.5 - 2 hours minimum here.

I'd have to recommend researching this museum before attending. It has lots of evidence of the first human civilisations in the area - perhaps almost too much. Select what you're interested in; then use the maps available to pick out those specific areas.
