We only had a welcome reception there for the congress participants, they offered Danish pancakes and drinks. Just saw the big room in the first floor.

The museum, among other exhibits, has very interesting exhibition about danish prehistory. There is also a very nice children museum in a separate wing. Plus the entire museum is free. Should not be missed when in Copenhagen.

The museum has a great range of exhibits - the early Danish history section is particularly impressive, as is the children's section which kept our two boys amused for over an hour with dressing up, building walls and creating their own museum exhibition.

I didn't have much time, only 2-3 hours, so I only made it through Prehistorical section of the museum and I absolutely loved it. Well presented, easy to follow and very interesting.

It's free. But it's time. And there are so many more museums with more to view. Some renaissance pieces - some would say too many - and a few impressionists. A beautiful building, well laid out but someone misses the magical.

We visited the National Museum on two separate occasions. On the first visit we spent 1 1/2 hours and only saw part of the 'Pre-history' section. This was well set out with an extensive collection artifacts and interesting information. We returned at 3:30pm the next day to spend an hour and a half in 'The Viking' display. From 4pm there... There's a lot of stuff in this museum. The pre-history section was very interesting, but the rest was dry. As it's free, it's worth a visit just to see the first floor.

Similar to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC USA the National Museum has a wide variety of items to view. Since it is a national museum it is free to visit.
