If you are in Copenhagen on a windy day as ours, the National Museum is the perfect place to be. You will receive free of charge lessons about the Danish history, plus there are some temporary exhibitions on the upper floors as well.

We hit this museum twice we loved it so much! Loved the layout, ease of viewing, kid friendliness and the museum shop. BTW it's free which is refreshing. My son loved the runes, the peat bog mummies, the Viking stuff, the Bronze Age tools and Medieval stuff and on and on....! It is not overwhelming....there is just enough cool stuff... More

Informative, big enough to concentrate on what you like and dismiss the other stuff without guilt. Good kids area. Not as dry as some national museums. Great vintage toy section (my obsessive interest!)

The museum is laid out beautifully and is very informative. The Danish Prehistory Collection is my favorite. The cafe also has really good cakes.

This is my favourite museum in Denmark. I've been there countless times, and always want to go back. The Danish Prehistory section is particularly stunning. They've got everything from beautifully crafted neolithic axe heads through the sort of Bronze Age horns you see on Danish Lurpak butter packs, well-preserved Bronze Age corpses (!), to a perfectly preserved, 2,000 years old... First of all. The museum is free. There is a great cafe with excellent brunch during the weekends. The children's museum is fantastic and can induce hours of play.

This is a great place to take kids to get a great insight into Danish history. They can dress up as Vikings and there is plenty of hands on stuff in the children's section.

Nice museum situated in the centre of Copenhagen close to Tivoli and other attractions. At least part of the museum is free :-)

I only managed to get round the early medieval Scandinavian things, but they were beautifully presented - apart from the ones currently on loan to the British Museum. (Sigh...) And all free; very civilised. Google Cultural Institute gives an idea of the scope: https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/collection/national-museum-of-denmark?projectId=art-project
