Compared to Helsignor and Egeskov and other castles of the world, this one doesn't cut it The drive to get there is better spent touring the countryside

I don't quite know how I felt about Nyborg Slot. Certainly it is not as impressive as one would hope, especially against some of the other castles in Denmark. What it does offer is the vivid history associated with the area. The conflicts between the Danes and Swedes playing an important part as well as the political intrigue for power.... More

The Castle is getting some renovation. The information is mostly in English. The surrounding area is very nice. The Castle has a tremendous history. Well worth the stop.

The Nyborg Slot is very historical but there is not a lot left of the original and the price of admission was quite high. In fairness, the price did also include the local museum but we weren't interested in seeing it. We ended up walking around the Slot instead of actually entering what appeared to be only a great hall.

The most important reason for us to visit is not the castle, but to walk along the mout and the river about 2 km's north of the castle where the major battle between the Danes and the Swedes took place in 1659. Beautiful place steeped in history many very old buildings mixed with modern shops. Glass fronted apartments in the harbor
