Even if you are not totally blown away by the history of Mycenea, the views are reason enough to visit. The access is very good so you feel safe exploring as there is a clear path around the site. Don't miss the tomb on the approach road either, its also staggering. More

I arrived just before they opened at 8am and had the thrill of strolling through the site all by myself. It is deeply evocative of the Bronze Age. It is a steep climb, but you want to stop to take pictures of the views over the valley every couple of minutes anyway. The descriptive signs are frequent and well done.... More

Fascinating look into history and an ancient culture. Walk through the Lion's Gate, erected in the 13th century BC and gaze down into the ruins of Grave Circle A. The gold artifacts from this royal family grave are on display in Athens. See the remains of the House of the Warrior Vase, also on display in Athens National Archaeological Museum... More

I knew nothing about Mycenae before I took this tour but it is absolutely fascinating. Take a guided tour to get the stories behind the kings believed to be buried here. The tombs are beyond belief - how did they manage to lift a stone that weighs the same as a jumbo jet? And the castle is also amazing. Really,... More

Whether this really is the site of King Agamemnon’s capital and tomb (a point of much debate) is beside the point, this ancient citadel is a must see on any Peloponnese itinerary. We drove from Nafplio (about 25 km), arrived in the middle of a rainstorm and turned back; only to repeat the exercise the next day. Arriving on the... More

No trip to Greece is complete with a visit to Mycenae. The view is spectacular and the ruins hold a major part of history, being the home of King Agamemnon. Only a short drive from Athens(around an hour and a half--quite scenic), it takes you out of the busy city and into a calmer, yet still historically valuable country site... More

I have visited Mycenae at least fifty times since first coming in 1969. Its first appearance in the distnce still sucks my breath away. This is the center of Greek civilization in the 2nd millennium B.C. The treasury of Atreus is astounding, and now there is a superb museum also. Don't miss nearby Tiryns and the Nauplion Museum for a... More

On the way to Mycenae - we stopped at some of the local vineyards to try their wine which was a great experience. Treasure of Atreus and Ancient Mycenae are wonderful stops if you enjoy history. The burial chamber is well preserved the cost is $10 - you will need a guide or take a good description with you to... More

It's not that there are any Classical Greek ruins on this particular acropolis, however if not for the Homeric Greeks the classical Greek world as we know it would not have existed. The view from on top of the citadel is breathtaking. No large temples remaining however the walls look as if they were built by giant Cyclopes, hence the... More
