What a beautiful tower that dominates the paralia (waterfront) of this ancient city. originally part of the walls that enclosed the city- it has a "dark" history - killings and torture during the ottoman occupation. After liberation it was painted white in an attempt to purify it and now an amazing museum. Documents the history of thessaloniki, the various uses... More

Well worth a stroll up this tower and the price is reasonable. But from the English translation on the boards outside you are led to expect those inside would have them too. They don't.

Sitting by the edge of the sea guarding the town in itself is a perfect landmark. When wandering around the town it is easy to get your bearings from. The tour itself has a fantastic view from the top and plenty of space. The walk up is with wide deep steps so that makes it quite comfortable. The rooms of... More

Read the history prior to visiting the Tower because the exhibit is in Greek and there are no English translations. It is very hot inside so I agree with the other reviewers, visiting at dusk or early morning may be best. We were there around 2:00 pm so it was a bit uncomfortable and there was little breeze inside. The... More

Very interesting exhibition but felt they could make more of it. Very hot during the day so might be best to go in evening. Great view from the top where there was a shop but could do with a few more places to sit as it was quite a steep climb.

Situated on the promenade of Thessaloniki, 10 minutes walking from Aristotelous Square, this is the greatest landmark of the city. Used to be a prison during the Otoman era, painted white by the greeks to erase the bad reputation, now the tower hosts different exhibitions on each floor. The view from the top worths every penny! Take at least half... More

We really enjoyed the museum in the white tower as well as the view from the top. Only 3 euros including English translation hand set. If you don't read Greek you will need a translator hand set. Set aside a minimum of 1 hour for white tower as lots to see.

Having just read the unfair review previously felt obliged to inform you differently! Although everything is indeed in Greek, you are able to have an English audio tape that you carry with you following the numbered circles on each picture/ area you visit. Very worthwhile visit with stunning views across Thessaloniki. Warm inside so don't over dress!
