We begin by reminding one that a piggy-backed ticket (at a reduced rate) can be purchased for visiting this museum and the archaeological museum which is just around the corner. Both are within a bit of walk from Aristotle Square but within easy walking distance from the White Tower. One can only marvel at the architectural design of this building,... More

Thessaloniki has one of the most well preserved Byzantine treasures, perhaps only Ravenna, Italy could rival them. This museum has an extensive collection of these treasures and they are very well displayed and explained. Defintely, it is worth a visit. It is good to do it before visiting any of the churches or castles in the city. Two hours can be... More

Another great museum, close to the archeological museum, making it really convenient to see both in one day. It's also close to the newly-renovated port and the city center, making it an excellent part of a city touring walk.

i loved my visit here. If you aren't into history, stay away but if you are a history buff or just like museums i highly recommend it. this museum has everything from old paintings, religious icons, and inscriptions to pottery, beads, and coins, to clothing, books, and weapons.

Sympathetically designed building. Spacious. Excellent curation. Many aspects of Byzantine culture & history covered e.g. every day life, churches, art, jewellery (always a favourite topic of mine). Excellent shop. Very good facilities. Yet another reason to visit this fascinating city with its many ancient layers (Ancient Greek, Jewish, Roman, Ottoman).

If you are not a history lover this museum is probably not for you but if you are a history lover you should visit this museum. Divided into 11 rooms it shows how life was in the Byzantine Empire of which Thessaloniki was the second largest city. You can see it all in an hour if you are not going... More

Great exhibits, very nice environment, very well marked and with detailed explanations. The building has interesting architecture and the café-restaurant next to it is very good.
