I went mostly for the building, designed by renowned Greek architect Kiriakos Krokos and while I wasn't 100% convinced by the signature red bricks, the lay out is flowing nicely and accommodates the narrative of the exhibition well. The narrative is chronological, showing the different stages of the Byzantine empire in the area that is today's northern Greece. There are... More

I walked here after visiting the archeological museum. I assumed it would have relatively small exhibits, but I was pleasantly surprised. The exhibits were well organized and well marked in English. Definitely worth a visit--perhaps pair it with the archeological museum. If you are Catholic/Orthodox, definitely don't miss this attraction. It contains tons of early Christian items.

Very well segmented historically, in this museum you will see authentic examples of the life of Byzantium. I was impressed by collection of coins and personal belongings of the people of that era. Unfortunately the tour inside the museum is in two languages. Greek and English.

After visiting the Archaeological Museum, with the same special and good price ticket, I went to this very interesting museum. It’s located very near to the Archaeological Museum in a very special and brilliant architecture building. The Museum of Byzantine Culture display is full of beautiful art pieces and other interesting items worth a longer visit, maybe next time. I’d... More

About 6 halls showcasing the city treasures since early Byzantine era up to 1920 or posted byzantine era. Very interesting museum to those who appreciates ancient architecture and arts especially icons and manuscripts . there is a full section on castles in Macedonia and how these were built for centuries.

If you are interested to Byzantine culture, this is excellent! You will get a lot of the byzantine history of town which will then give you a different perspective of the ruins you see walking around in town (walls etc). Furthermore, there is a section representing how houses used to be build based on ruins (real mosaics moved to museum)... More

Have been several times. For visitors to the city it is easy to get to and can be combined with a visit to the Archaeological museum next door. The exhibits are well displayed. There is a lovely coffee shop with a choice of snacks. I would advise looking at the exhibits, having a rest in the coffee shop and then... More
