Interesting exhibits but staff were very rude and dismissive. I liked the mosaics and the icons. I liked the museum but would not go out of my way to visit.

A rather recently built museum. Its construction and content are beautiful and extremely interesting. The visitor gets a full and representative view of the history of byzantine times with focus on Thessaloniki. An absolute must to visit (particularly practical as there is a joint ticket for the Archeological museum, just next to it). The museum cafe+restaurant is the other must,... More

Greece seems to do museums very well and this is no exception. It's modern, rich in material, well-organised and clearly displayed. Plenty of information in English and some superb artefacts with worthwhile comments and notes. Well worth a visit for an hour or three.

Spend some of your time here if interested in the byzantine culture of Thessaloniki. My favourite part has definetely been the one of the religious images. For free if you are a student. Definetely worth to see!

If you have a few hours to spare at the Thessaloniki airport a visit to the Museum of Byzantium Culture is the perfect place to spend them. The museum is very rich with artefacts with very good information given in English. The permanent exhibition is an excellent place to learn about Byzantium, history in this part of the world and... the two museum are very close to each other and you can even buy a combined ticket for them. We have started with the archeological one and then continued with the Byzantine one and a little disappointed with it. The number of artefacts was not a many as the other one and unfortunately not as interesting as the Roman one...... More

Thessaloniki was the second city of the Byzantine Empire and was the Symvasilévousa (co-reigning) city of the Empire. This museum does justice to the Byzantine past of the city!
